MB Extended Limited Warranty Basics Thread

There have been lots of question in the W204 section regarding the MB ELW (Extended Limited Warranty) and I wanted to clarify several points.

- The MB ELW can be purchased from any MB dealership nationwide, as long as the car is still within the new car warranty (4 years from original purchase date, or less than 50,000 miles, whichever comes first).

- The authentic MB ELW has no deductible and is accepted at all MB dealerships nationwide regardless of where it is purchased.

- Only the MB ELW guarantees the use of authentic MB parts on your vehicle.

- Though the MB ELW has excellent coverage, it does not cover everything in the MB New Car warranty. Additionally, some aftermarket warranties can offer even greater coverage.

- All models of a certain range (C-class, E-class, S-class) have the same warranty pricing except AMG and diesel models. For example, the pricing is the same on a pre-owned E350 or E550, and regardless of options.

- The MB ELW is offered as an additional 1, 2 or 3 year beyond the factory warranty with coverage up to 75k or 100k miles (whichever comes first years/mileage). It is best to pick the warranty that will covers your needs; you can pick any combination of years/mileage.

- Pricing: Despite what your local dealerships may tell you, the pricing of the warranties is negotiable. There is even a 15% "service charge" that can be waived with negotiation.

- The following are a group of individuals at MB dealerships nationwide who offer very competitive pricing: (in no particular order)

1. Jason Mayes, International Autos, (414) 727-6722, jmayes@iamilwaukee.com
2. Erin Mahre, Mercedes-Benz of Santa Rosa, (707) 521-3996
3. Jeff Jackson, Tafel Motors, (502) 894-6829
4. Dan Boone, Mercedes-Benz of Austin, (512) 220-0940

I recommend you call all of them as well as your local dealership for competitive quotes. Make sure you are getting a final price OTD (including any "service changes").

- The above individuals will need your car's VIN, exact mileage, desired warranty information; they are happy to sell you the warranty over the phone.

Happy motoring! :zoom:

A few things...

Please add my name to the list as I probably do 2-10 quotes a day :)

2nd, MB does not offer the 125k warranty any longer.
3rd, AMG models are in a different tier, correct, and so are diesels.

Are the diesel warranties more or less expensive?

JasonMayes 02-25-2015 01:35 PM

More. Average of $600-1300 more expensive depending on the term/miles.

I was thinking about picking up a Used SL for a second car. Any idea what the rough difference would be on a 7/75 between a 2013 SL63 and a 2013 SL550 with equal mileage, etc?

Thanks

I recommend your email the above poster with all the information in the first post. He will give you actual quotes.

JasonMayes 02-26-2015 10:25 AM

Exactly $2700 :)

Patric 02-26-2015 11:35 AM

Thanks Jason, that makes the SL550 look a bit more appealing. :y

Thanks for the list. I left messages for 3, and sent 1 email to those listed above. I received 1 call back and a response from my email. In defense of the non-responders, that could have been my fault by leaving a confusing or by not leaving my name and number. Too, the message may have gotten lost.

I tried to play fair. I told both that I was contacting others for a bid and there wouldn't be a call back to try to beat the best price I found.

Jeff Jackson called back in short order. A very pleasant man and a self proclaimed gearhead. He gave me a price and we then went on to talk cars. From exotics to old hot rods. A very enjoyable conversation.

Jason Mayes sent an email while I was shooting the breeze with Jeff. He came in with the lowest price and my proclaimed winner. Easy peasy. I got the paperwork via mail yesterday, the PDF the day the deal was done.

As an aside, the car in question is my 2011 E350 Bluetec with 49,459 miles and weeks away from the warranty date expiring. Wifey drives it every day logging 98 miles round trip to work. That makes the warranty gonzo in less than a week. I wouldn't consider buying an extended warranty for this car as generally speaking nuttin happens to justify the cost of one. (I wasn't aware until recently that warranties were negotiable until recently.) We bought car as a lease return with many options and 14,015 miles.

In the last couple of months, the pano roof almost works and creaks, a module went out, and the various "assists" sometimes don't work or sees things that aren't there. In 3 weeks the pano roof broke 3 times. It goes back into the dealer again on Tuesday. A new problem popped up yesterday. The right front caliper grabs, locking the wheel during a semi-hard stop.

The above fully justifies my late purchase of the warranty. Most of you will never have this many gizmos going nuts.

Thank you Mr. Mayes for some piece of mind.

Lou

JasonMayes 05-13-2015 01:01 PM

Hi Jason, left you a message as well as emailed you regarding quoting me for a '11 S63 that is currently under factory warranty. looking forward to hearing from you,
Jake

hope to get some thoughts:

currently looking for an extended warranty for my 2012 CLS63PP, which loses it's warranty in the spring of 2016. Car currently has 34K miles on it.

Looking at an extended 36 month/65K mile for 4K from a Rick Hendrick Mercedes Benz dealer in Durham, NC

I of course want to wait until it's closer to term, obviously, to not have any over lap, does this make sense to wait?
Thanx in advance

Hi Jason,

Hope your still here :)

Been trying to find a wht/tan E550 Cab with P2 and the only one I found was not at a MB dealer. It's a 2013, low miles in fantastic shape.

Can I get a MB Warranty thru you even though I won't be buying it at the MB dealer ?

Struggling with this not being a CPO car....

Thanks

Mike

ceevee 12-03-2015 07:30 PM

I have a 2012 C350 that I purchased CPO from an official MB dealer (1 year CPO warranty after OEM expiration), that currently has a couple months of the OEM left. I am the 2nd owner. I'm wondering if I should get an extension on the OEM warranty (which would overlap with the 1 year CPO warranty), or if I should get an extension on the CPO warranty.

Any advice?

Disparity among MB dealers on ELW

Hmmm, wish there was something definitive on:
- if MB vehicles
- bought at a non-MB dealership

are eligible for a MB ELW:
- if they are still within the 4/50,000 NVW.

In my case, I am looking at a C300 with 16,000 miles and has 18 months left on the NVW and have been told by two MB dealers that an ELW cannot be purchased for the car as it will not be purchased from a MB dealer.

Loubud 03-22-2016 11:53 AM

Fury,
Read the 1st and 2nd post in this thread and call a couple of the people listed. You will get a quote as long as your car qualifies (age/mileage), regardless of who you bought it from.
I didn't buy an ELW until the new car warranty was very close to expiring. And, I did not buy my car from a MB dealer.

Fury 03-22-2016 04:28 PM

Thank you for the response. Part of me wonders if the M-B dealers I talked to are hoping to sell a 3rd party ELW.

Fury,
Perhaps. I wouldn't leave my car with them. :)

I posted this in my car specific forum as well (W205). I bought my Extended Warranty on a new vehicle from one of the recommended dealers here, with good experience from him.

That said, i am stunned by how much is actually not covered. Basically anything in-cabin outside of climate controls and Command/Radio. Since the newer MBs are so full of electronics, I could see having a huge repair bill for a whole number of things not covered, such as instrument clusters, Distronic, rear/360 cameras, seats (heat, memory, power), e parking brake and shifter, etc.

I've had manufacturer backed warranties from GM and Infiniti in the past, and the MB coverage is way worse than those two. For the price paid, I'm thinking it isn't worth it, and might be looking for something aftermarket.

Anyone else have thoughts on what is/isn't covered?

Thats interesting.. were you looking at Easycare? I have it on my '11 S63 and just recently had some work done on it, including the distronic plus module, which is covered, just that they cannot replicate the error messages, so Easycare told the shop that once they can replicate the error, they will replace the unit and wont charge me a deductible for that visit.

Thanks, I'll check out Easycare, but I looked at/purchased the Mercedes ELW, so I was referencing that. It is refundable until factory warranty expires, so I can switch over to something else if it is better.

CA_GLC 06-05-2016 04:11 PM

Does the MB extended warranty have a deductible for each repair job or just one-time charge?

AMG 17GT 06-05-2016 04:39 PM

Ironically Mercedes-Benz warranties are the worst and they don't cover the most particular factory problems as with the ABC pumps and shocks. It's a simple admission that the design is faulty.

You're much better off going with Zurich or easy care.
