Hi everyone,

I have a Mercedes-Benz W204 C-Class (2008, 3.0 petrol engine) and I’m experiencing an intermittent starting issue that I can’t clearly diagnose.

The issue happens occasionally:

I turn the key to start the car

Sometimes I only get a single “click” or the engine turns just a fraction (about one rotation) and then stops

On the second attempt, the car starts normally without any problems

This does not happen every time, only occasionally (it has happened twice within a few days).

Another important symptom:

During one of the failed start attempts, the fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty and the low fuel warning light came on

After the engine started, the fuel gauge returned to normal within a few seconds

The battery is new (2–3 weeks old).

Once the car starts, it runs perfectly with no warning lights or drivability issues.

Possible causes I’ve seen mentioned include:

ground/earth strap issue

battery terminal connection

starter relay or SAM module

starter motor beginning to fail

Has anyone experienced the same symptoms on a W204 3.0 petrol?
What was the actual cause in your case?

Thanks in advance.

AC Issue with Compressor being shutdown

Ok, I am sick and exhausted of this climate control at this point. This is one of 3 w204 c300s (2009/2012/2014). It is the 2014, in case that is relevant, and the only one to ever have anything more than a coolant recharge issue. I have the classic issue with the climate control doing the fast blink diagnostic and eventually turning off power to the compressor and going into a slow blink. For the record, I started this journey by checking all the fuses, except the pre-fuse, the charge level of the coolant. Next was the evacuation of the coolant, and replacement of the coolant pressure sensor, next was the replacement of the compressor. I now have a cleaned system, new pressure sensor and a rebuilt compressor that ended up being new from partsgeek. By the way the compressor is of course the one with the magnetic coupling. The only thing weird was the wire connector was a wider 4 prong, so I moved the old cable to the board/selenoid to the new one. It has been recharged with coolant. I have watched the values in the computer and can see the climate control do the fast blink diagnostic, see the amps to the compressor go to 0.98-1.0 while it does startup, then watch it go to 0 and the slow blink when it decides to shut everything down. I am at a complete loss, my next door neighbor is an actual Mercedes Tech and he has nothing to add at this point. The only thing that is off is the cabin sensor with the overhead apparently is broken, but I checked the other 204s and they all have the same bad value in that field. At this point any advice other than have you plugged it in or have you tried turning it on and off would be welcome input. I have haunted this board for years and the advice in here has helped me out tremendously, but never felt I had much to add. This has made me finally make an account and seek out the advice of experts. Please HELP!

I'm chasing down a TCC lockup issue in my 2012 C300 (A89 option). I'm trying to determine if the check ball at the end of the transmission input shaft (torque converter side of the trans) should move freely. I'm guessing it should, but mine is stuck pretty solid. I got it to move a bit, but it seems tighter than it should be if it was supposed to be free and now I'm second guessing myself. Not sure why there would be a check ball at the end of the shaft if it wasn't supposed to move?

I'm also making a guess that this is what allows the TCC lockup clutch to bleed off pressure, and if it's supposed to be free and isn't that might explain my issue.

Hi
Wondering could anyone point me in the right direction.
My key fob won't open and close doors. When I try to start the car the dashboard lights are dead. They come on when I open the door but the dash goes dark after 30 secs.
The key turns in the ignition but nothing happens.
The main battery is good and the key fob appears to be working ( New battery. Red light flashing and IR can be seen on camera)
It appears to be two different issues. I've read the key fob has notthing to do with the starting of the car.
to.Thanks in advance for any advice.

Back in May 2024 I had bought a 1l container of the Pentosin CHF 11S power steering fluid to swap out with the old power steering fluid in my 2010 W204. I have no idea if the power steering fluid had ever been changed previously. Car had around 150,000 miles at that time.

I didnt want to mess with disconnecting any hoses and risk breaking something or causing leaks. Instead I simply sucked out as much fluid out of the power steering fluid reservoir with a large meat syringe and filled with new fluid. I did this once a day until i went thru the 1l.

Heres what the new fluid and then the old fluid looks like:

Now 2yrs later I came across a good price for the Pentosin CHF 11S again so picked another one up. Just started and noted the condition of the old fluid. Looks a brownish color compared to the greenish new fluid color. It has a smell to it where the new fluid really doesnt have an odor or at least I cant pick anything up. Its a cloudy day unfortunately so the colors may be different with the lighting. I put some old and new fluid in cups to see side by side.

Not sure what this tells me other than the obvious color change. I was expecting the old fluid to be more greenish or at least was hoping. I'll finish up replacing the 1l container then see how the fluid looks.

Hello all,
I'm trying to install a Dynavin D9 Flex ( https://www.dynavin.de/en/products/products/carhifi/navigation-systems-for-car-hifi/navigation-system-w204-premium-flex-mercedes-c-classe-w204/ )...

Hello all,
I'm trying to install a Dynavin D9 Flex ( https://www.dynavin.de/en/products/p...c-classe-w204/ ) unit on my 2007 w204 C200 Kompressor, and am facing an issue with powering the unit:
- Without plugging the permanent 12v yellow wire, the unit doesn't turn on at all (is this normal?)
- When I plug it to the + of my battery, in the right-side of my engine compartment, it works.
- I have no idea how to run the yello cable properly from the dash to the engine bay. The fuse box is on the left-side and I feel there must be a better way.

Has anyone faced something like this? Should the unit work without the yellow permanent 12v ?
Should I use one of the fuse slots or the cigarette lighter as a backup solution?

Thank you in advance for your help.
