New G Wagon getting the 7 Speed....plus more info PICS here

If repost....sorry. I suck at checking first.

Despite its diminutive sales figures, one of the Mercedes models we're most questioned about when checking our inbox is the Mercedes G-Class. Today, Mercedes has released news G-Class fanatics of all ages have been longing to hear - what upgrades are planned for the always-classic G-Wagon. First up, as with all upgrades, are the powerplants. For my European readers, gone are the G 270 CDI and G 400 CDI models, replaced instead by the new G 320 CDI, a model fitted with Mercedes' ultra-modern 165 kW/224 hp diesel powerplant. In addition to meeting current EU4 emissions standards, the new diesel engine offers the fuel efficiency of the former 156 horsepower five-cylinder model, while still offering the same "punchy" performance of the former 250 horsepower V8 diesel. Other changes to the G-lineup include the discontinuation of the G 320 petrol model, which means the three G's included in the model lineup are the G 320 CDI, the G 500, and the G 55 AMG Kompressor. Also, worth mentioning - both the G 320 CDI and G 500 are available in station wagon short, station wagon long, and cabriolet versions, while the G 55 is available only as a station wagon long version.
But that's merely the tip of the iceberg ladies and gentlemen, there's plenty more in store for the G-Class as well. First, there's the 7G-TRONIC transmission, fitted on both the G 320 CDI and G 500 models. Paired perfectly with both powerplants, the seven-speed transmission promises excellent performance while still offering impressively low fuel consumption. Then, there's the bi-xenon headlamps including fog lamps with the cornering light function, a feature equipped on all G-Class models. On the four-door station wagon models, new ISOFIX child seat attachment points help ensure your child doesn't fall victim to the perils of off-road driving. New scratch resistant exterior paint colors calcite white, periclase green metallic and teallite blue metallic add a new dimension to the G's already-impeccable styling. And last but not least, Mercedes' "ARTICO" interior package is available as an optional extra, offering customers a hard-wearing yet breathable man-made leather which is particularly pleasant to the touch.
Pricing for the models ranges between EUR 55,300 - EUR 60,300 for the G 320 CDI models, EUR 69,100 - EUR 74,100 for the G 500 models, and EUR 97,700 for the G 55 AMG model.
To learn more, keep scrolling for a number of photos, followed by the full press release. Enjoy.

Will they ever replace the stupid speedometer and navigation, steering wheel is not good either.

Tall Giraffe 06-23-2006 09:31 PM

Finally Projection xenons or for that matter xenons period. What is with the one sport pedal? I thought it might of shared an updated odometer with a newer model.

Overall I like :)

.............Notably absent is the DVD NAV. Mercedes must be crazy.

:bs: :bs: :bs:

what is up w/ the one sports pedal. :rolf: either this is a joke, photoshop or the folks at MB have clearly LOST their minds.

in addition, no way benz would put out this G w/ a 8 year old speedo. give me a F-ING break.

please do something about this benz!!! :X :X :wall:

Are they kidding with that interior? :wwf:

No 5.4 V8, no interior upgrades, and no real exterior changes...Is Merc trying to kill the G? :wall:

They should have given it a GL-esque interior, or at the very least, the upgraded components from the updated C-class.

Stupid stupid stupid.

P.S. They didn't even change the wheels? :X :wwf:  :wall:

More changes are planned for the 2008 model year.

That's what I figured....

I think that the interior picture is the from the older G, because I have seen 2003's even with the nicer interior than that one. But it looks good with the Xenons.

The picture above is from the new G320 CDI, which doesn't have all of the same interior trim as the G500 and G55 (wooden steering wheel, chrome, etc.). Otherwise it is the same as the other G-Class models...so the updated interior we were hoping for will have to wait.

When my lease is up on my RR Sport I might actually consider one of these, I have always wanted one :)

Turning it into a "GL" would in fact kill the G. They have to keep the rugged look of the car, it is what defines it. However, more power is always welcome. :)

About the interior, I see what you're saying. I am by no means looking for them to turn the G into a "soft-roader" But to keep up apperances, I think Mercedes needs to AT LEAST, change the design of it. We have seen this one for long enough. An upgraded interior would also serve to convince potential customers that this is the right niche SUV for them as opposed to, lets say, the Range Rover. Lets face it, the rangie has a much nicer interior.

HLG600 07-21-2006 01:00 PM

MB can play around with the interior all they want, it's the alteration of the distinctive exterior which I hope is avoided. As of now, the G functions as an MB image car, simply because the basic design is several decades old and is able to surpass the top of line SUV's today. Ah yes, the RR. It has a much softer interior, and is a much softer automobile. Nice looking car, way overpriced, but still a nice car. :)

Oh, The exterior? Keep it! In no way should it be drasticly changed. I could see minor changes, such as hinges on the inside of the doors, or windows sealed from the inside (as opposed to the exterior weather striping) But every effort should be made to keep the G looking like the G. :)

Speedo

Please oh PLEASE MB GODS ... change out that speedo.

IwantA124 07-30-2006 12:15 AM

Leave the speedo alone. It looks great. I don't want my Mercedes to remind me of an Audi or a VW which is what they are starting to do with the new clusters.
