trailer hitch installation
according to the instructions the rear bumper needs to be removed prior to installation of the hitch.
if anyone installed one...did the bumper really "have to come off"?
thanks

I was able to install the Europa hitch without removing the bumper.
It was a really tight fit getting the tools up there, but I managed. The only problem I had was that my torque wrench couldn't be used on two bolts.

I put the MB authorized hitch on my car. It was installed at Star Motors in Houston. The part plus installation was 800 dollars and it is very well made. It appears to be of a superior design to the Europa part and is warranteed by MB North America

The electrical connections appear more integrated and logically laid out. Welds are superior. The Europa model that I have seen on a friend's 2001 G500 has an integrated foot step which seems superfluous. I will take a picture of my hitch this week and attempt to post it although this may be beyond my technical ability!!

Please post a photo when you can. I wonder if I got a different hitch than your friend's. The electircal connections on mine were just MB parts from Europe. I don't know anything about welding so I can't comment there, but I am missing the integrated foot step!
Is that correct that your friend has a 2001 G500? Is that in the US? I was under the impression that there wern't any Europa 2001 Gs.

Also, it can work with electric trailer brakes. The MBUSA currently cannot.

It's easy to tell a Europa imported G500. There is a small rectangular nameplate attached to the lower right corner of the rear door. Also, the VIN's all start with WDBEG.
