hood flutter/heated steering wheel

G500 '03, black: During a 150 mile cruise at 65 mph I notice a flutter in the hood sheet metal dead center, aft portion. Colored black it's easy to see. No other vibrations noticed in wheel or rest of vehicle. Anyone else see same? Also, the steering wheel heater: What does it heat (wood, leather, both?) and how long does the timer keep it on? Mine stays on until you maunually shut it off or turn off the vehicle. Unlike the seat heater I don't feel heat in any portion of the wheel. Fuse? What bank?

i have a '03 as well. the heating steering wheel heats up the leather portion of the wheel (not the wood).

i have only had the vehicle for a few days, but it seems to work intermittently. I am not sure if it is supposed to time out or not.

regarding hood flutter, i have not experienced that at all. I just drove from san francisco to seattle and back (almost 2K miles), so i think i would have noticed it by now.

i have a black 03 too.

i never noticed the hood flutter until you mentioned it. i see it only on the rear foot or so of the hood.

my heated steering wheel seems to have a timer on it. it seems to work when the ambient temperature is cool.

No flutter at 118 mph!

If it makes you feel any better, I live in Switzerland, and early yesterday Sunday morning, I decided it was a risk worth taking in neighboring France to wind my 2000 G500 up to a reasonable speed on an empty autoroute.

At a steady 190 kph (118 mph) the tach was sitting at about 4600, everything was as steady as a rock, no hood flutter, nothing except the feeling of solidity. Surprisingly little wind noise for the .50 Cd.

I didn't keep it up for long ( the fine being about $1000) but I did feel like it could have kept going all day (or at least until the next $100 of gas)

You should try it (just once anyway!)

I have a 2002 G500 and the hood flutters in the left center at about 55 to 60 continuing up to 90, then it levels out. That doesn't bother me but does anyone have a groan in the steering at low speeds and when stationary?

I have had my 2003 G for only a week, and have not noticed any hood flutter"I've yet to go 90mph, give me a few more days", and the heated steering wheel seems to work fine. I am having a few other problems though.-- Lots of rattling from the drivers side door only, when I start, or go over a few bumps, and I really hate too much rattling! Side mirrors don't adjust when parking in reverse, and I have set them to. As well when the auto feature for the headlamps is on, there always on, not so in my other MB. I plan on having these issues checked out soon. Anyone else having the same problems?

my g is 3 weeks old. the driver side door rattled.

i put white grease on the latch and the rattle disappeared immediately and has not recurred.

the mirror is tricky. programming it required me to follow the manual word by word. also, don't forget to depress the right side mirror button or else it won't tilt in reverse.

thanks for the advice. I'll try the greese, and read the manual. I have the right side button pushed in. I'll let you know what my results are.

thanks

I have a black 02. At times I do notice a hood flutter, which is normal. Much of what your seeing is not actually hood flutter but a reflection. This is most noticable in black because of its highly reflective properties. You must also take into consideration that the hood on the G is almost completely flat therefore it does not have the areodynamic properties of most other vehicles.
