Rear bike rack W463?

Gents,

Have any of you mounted a bike rack on your G? I don't want any chincy setup with straps, I'd like to know if there is a specific kit out there for the G - either through Mercedes or a 3rd party. I'm about to pickup my first new bike in many years and want to use the G to transport it along with the woman's bike. My '09 G does not have provision for a tow hitch but I knew RENNTech has a kit as well as there being an OEM solution, both of which I may consider.

Any advice is appreciated.

hey I had the same issue .if you have a hitch you can use saris bike rack fits minimum two bikes.but if you need you can upgrade it to 4.the only problem i found you can not fold it vertically ,because of sparewhell at the back.hope it helps.

I use the Yakima Sparetime, and it works on any suv with a spare tire in the back. Cost is around $170.. It is really firm and easy to install.

I use a 2" Curt Hitch receiver which bolts on directly to the w463 frame underneath the bumper.

There are a bunch for sale on ebay.

Then I use a Thule 916 bike carrier. I had an 11" adapter made to extend the hitch receiver to clear the spare wheel holder, so I can fold the carrier vertically when I'm not carrying any bikes. You can find adapters on ebay.

Sorry, I just realized the first 2 posts with hitch receiver issues are post 2009 G wagens that don't have the existing provisions for hitch receivers. I'm not sure if the Curt Hitch Receiver would still work for those applications...

Uhaul

If you're in a country with uhaul they sell hitches. they may have one for th 09.

A good speed/race shop could fabricate one.

Didn't catch if a roof or front end solution is available or acceptable.

No, UHaul will not have a solution other than welding and cutting. There is nothing to bolt up to on 2009-2012 G in North American market imports.

Thanks! They are an awesome company to deal with. They went through a few changes recently but they still make good bikes and have great customer service.
