G rocks when coming to a stop
I've had my 2002 G for a little over a year now (about 5,000 miles) and in the last couple months I've noticed that it rocks noticeably when coming to a full stop. I swear it didn't do this when new.
I had to take the car into the dealer for another problem and mentioned it to the service guy. The dealer called later to say that my rotors were warped and had to be replaced (under warranty). I wasn't sure why this would cause the rocking, but said ok. I picked up the car yesterday and noticed the rocking is still there.
I'm so sensitive to the rocking now that it's hard for me to tell now whether I'm imagining a problem where there is none.
Any other rockers out there?

Did you take your mechanic for a test drive to show him the problem you wanted fixed?
He called me later and said that he spoke to some MB reps who acknowledged that G's rock when coming to a stop--something about how it was unavoidable given "the long travel of the front and rear suspension."
Somehow knowing it is normal (or at least being told that it is) has made it bearable, but I do a lot of stop and go driving and it is impossible not to notice.
Maybe I'll go in and try a 2003 model.

Even the ML does that a little, as do the pre-air suspension Range Rovers.
Maybe I misunderstood. Are you talking about an ever-so-slight back/forth rock just as you come to a complete stop? Remember, you're driving a 5500 lbs modified milirary vehicle with off-road suspension and solid axels and a body-on-chasis design. This ain't no S-Class.

And yes, I did think to myself "maybe I should get the S500 on the showrrom floor."
I'm still going to try the 2003 G to see if it rocks.
Keep on rockin' in the free world!

The G-Class is optimized for off-road use and durability. There are many features of this vehicle that actually favor off-road use at the expense of on-road comfort. That being said, it's still a better drive than a lot of SUVs on the market today. This is a heavy miltary vehicle using a chasis/body design that's nearly 25 years old. Just watch the news and you'll see what the Marines are doing with their G-wagens in Iraq...try putting a Hummer H2 through those conditions.
If you want an SUV for mostly on-road use with style and comfort, the new Range Rover is a better buy, IMHO; and it's actually a very good performer off-road.
Having said all of this, I would rather drive the G500 than an S500. My mother has an S500 and I think it's a great car, but I just prefer the ride in the G500. I also have a 745i which I think is a better driver's car than the S500, but it's less reliable and simple things are hard to do with the iDrive.
