Gas tank flap won't open Help!

The gas tank flap on my 2002 G 500 won't open. Removed the rear panel and pulled the strap. Still won't open and nearly out of gas. Help with any ideas.

Swing by a dealer before you totally run out and I'm sure they'll help you out.
