yes, this is a difference in door seal.

difference between 2002 and 2003 (I believe) is a little slit where the roof meets the A-pillar. because 2002 had skinny A-pillar cover sea 2003+ got airbags and and much thicker/chunkier A-pillar covers. You can still make them work, might just need to cut a small slip to relieve tension in that corner.

not sure at what year... maybe 2013 or maybe a little sooner, the B-pillar trim and C-pillar trim attachments to the actual body changed, they got clips instead of the door seals holding them in place. So the newer door seals have a slightly smaller width (1-2 mm) of the fuzzy end of the door seal. I think they changed it a bit since in 2002 and maybe few other year the fuzzy part of the door seal was actually holding the panels to the body, but when they panels got their own clips, they made it a little smaller. I believe they sill work just fine. I had someone purchase a door seal from 2015 G63 that I had and they said it worked for them.

Hopefully this clarifies things a little )))

sound deadening

One of the things I found really brilliant about your rebuild was all the soundproofing that you did. I love a well insulated car. Can you describe the difference all that work made? Is it quieter? How much? Was it worth it? Please, let us know.

Yeah I stuck sound deadening in every place I could. I’m sure it increase the weight of the vehicle but I did not care )

Haven’t had a chance to drive the car much. I’m sure it made a big difference but unless I compare one to another for me it’s going to be hard to tell.

Just finished reading thru all 980 posts. Absolutely amazing thread. Your work is impeccable. And that work spans across many different fields. Mechanical, bodywork, glass......How you're still married & still in business is beyond my comprehension.

Questions;

- If you had to do it over again, what, if anything, would you do differently?
- Would you ever consider selling her?
- Do you park this vehicle indoors or out?
- Do you believe in lethal force to protect personal property? LOL

Hello
Thank you )
I initially did not think this project was going to be so detailed and intense but once I started to take everything apart and I thought to myself, why not just do everything the way I want to.

The car is parked at my parents house about 30 minutes from my house , my dad has all the tools and a second hand is always helpful.

I don’t let the project interfere with my personal life, most of the time I go home whenever my wife comes home from work. Sometimes if I’m in the middle of something that needs to be finished I’ll stay late but I otherwise I’m done at 6 o’clock. I also don’t go there every day, I’d say maybe four or five times a week.

Im sure I would have done some things differently. I wish I removed the body from that frame so everything is more meticulous.

no, I’m not going to sell this car. If anything, I might buy another similar project sometime in the future and do things a little differently. Maybe do it more off road vehicle or convert it to a 4 x 4 square.

my cars are parked in a garage or a carport

I believe in lethal force to protect myself for my family. As far as cars and personal property just have a really really good insurance coverage

Could you provide details on where you found the updated pieces for the A/C Unit , the upper cluster controls that houses the Lock/Unlock, heated seats and etc, and the 'ESP off' buttons? I have a 2002 G, could I just swap and plug n play these two clusters without any major programming/wiring?

Best Regards,

ARI

Hello
Thank you

In order to accomplish what I have done with my center console, you will need G-wagon switch unit (hazard panel), some people use W203 unit but it does not have the rear wiper button.
You will need W203 or W463 wood trim surround.
A/C unit is from W209, because it has the (AC off/rest) button. There are allot of these units out there, but I think from my research only W209 has the (AC off/rest) button.
You will need W203 wood trim for the A/C unit.

Here is where the is going to be an issue (I think).... face-lifted W203 Comand unit will not just fit in to 2002 G-wagon radio crate. You can see in my thread that I had to combine W203 and W463 radio crate in to one. It was not easy.... I had my dash out so it was easier.
I think some people modify the radio crate with the dash in place and somehow make it fit.

No programing, most wires for Hazard switch and climate are plug and play.

I performed the center console switch. The hazard panel just requires repinning for one of the cables - each pin is numbered 1-4, so it's easy to match. I did NOT remove my dash so was unable to replace and make hybrid w203/w463 crate. I made custom mounts and got creative in order to secure the new components. I'll post pics if any one is interested.

Thank you Kobzarhomes for this thread. It's the BEST!

@Kobzarhomes - Thank you again for this amazing thread. You've inspired me to do the sunroof mod, center console update and more! I purchase a new instrument cluster and the SRS light stays on and fuel gauge does not work. Could you provide any info on how you got your instrument cluster to work properly? My mechanic was unable to use star diagnostics to get it to work either. Thanks! Ming

You’re welcome, I’m glad I could be some help )

I haven’t had a chance to tackle the cluster just yet, I will once my steering wheel and the airbag arrives and then I’ll start clearing codes and I will update everyone.

Every time I see this I just smile...............as I know how much work had to go into this (unless you've done a car, you would never know). It also brings up a lot of stress, hahaha, I've done a few and NEVER AGAIN.

Good job though. You're a complete boss!!!!

The illuminated door seals are a nice personal touch. Have you thought about making the speakers cover like Burmester ?

I have thought about it. I haven’t seen any covers that look quality. Maybe if I find some or if somebody can make some for me I’ll do that.
