Introduction and Build Thread - 2008 G55

Finally decided to join up here, no stranger to the forums, mostly been a VW/Audi guy in years past, but picked up a 2008 G55 last April after wanting one since I was a kid. I quickly wrapped up my Phase 1 modification plans, which kept me satisfied for a little while, now in the process of figuring out what's next.

Here is what has been done to date:

Engine:
- PedalBox Throttle Mapping (definitely helps with the lag from the electric throttle, honestly love it for a few hundred bucks)
- Custom Exhaust (mufflers removed, straight piped from cat-back)

Suspension/Wheels
- 20x9.5'' Carlsson 2/6 (had them laying around from a previous car and the late 90s Mercedes wheels seemed to work in a strange period correct sort of way, so I had the original chrome stripped and refinished the faces satin black, and barrels/lips gloss black)
- MotorsportTech Adapters (5x112 > 5x130)
- 50mm Spring Spacer
- 35x12.5x20 Toyo Open Country RT (since people may ask, it rubs a tad on full lock, next set of wheels will be a little more aggressive offset wise, but I was scared they would stick out too much so kept the adapter size to a minimum

Stereo:
- Pioneer AppRadio4
- JL Audio 12TW3 (x4)
- JL Audio C3-650 (x2)
- JL Audio XD1000/1
- JL Audio XD800/8
- Custom Install by Justin Marks at Audition Audio in Cumming, GA

Overall I love the car, would love a 4x4, but not exactly in the budget anytime soon, so doing my best to create a mini-version. Next steps are G63/Brabus conversion, shave and fill rear tire mount holes, possibly some wider flares (can't find many out there, may get some custom made, unless anyone knows anywhere that makes wider flares), wheel change, and probably a color change (most likely wrap).

Always open to comments, questions, criticism, general banter, whatever. Now for some pics, hope you guys enjoy!

And if there are any Audi fans here, this is the other car (she's a 2006 A6 4.2 S-Line, air suspension, wheels, lots of OEM S6 parts, big stereo, etc. etc. etc. but she is quickly turning into the side chick with how much the G gets driven)

Welcome aboard. Nice looking G. Those wheels work really well on the truck especially with the black finish you applied.

The way the throttle timing is set up on the car there is a slight delay from when you press the gas and when the car actually respond. This lets you alter that delay so the car is more responsive and predictable. I thought it was a gimmick, but after testing it out, I love it. Check it out here: http://www.pedalbox.com/

You honestly don't even need the spacers for 35s, I just wanted it a little taller. 33s will fit no problem at stock height so that's not an issue, width however, for the 12.5s just make sure your wheels are aggressive enough or they may rub on the inside at full lock like mine do. Mine are currently 20x9.5 et20.

If you do want them though, I got the spacers from here: http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/for...=21524&start=1

I am going to test fit a 37 this weekend and see how much work would be needed to get those to fit.

My rims are 20x10.5 and the tires are 33 x 12.50 x 20 . Do you think it is aggressive ? I just don't know how to determine if they are aggressive or not

Thanks

Looks good what type of adapters are you running? I need to push my wheels out a bit or get new wheels.

Mine has very similar style to yours.

Also how loud is the exhaust after you removed the 2nd cat and muffler? Too load for daily driving? Do you have a sound clip?

Ok, so the good thing about wheel fitment is it is just straight math so once you get it, its easy to figure out.

Offset: Your wheels are ET45, mine are ET20 so that means your wheels will be 25mm further inside the fenders than mine are assuming the same width.

Width: Tour wheels are 1'' wider than mine which is evenly distributed (1' = 25.4mm, but I always use 24mm for easy math), so your wheels will be 12'' further out and 12mm further in than mine assuming the same offset.

Combine the two and we get that on the inside your wheels will be 37mm further in, and on the outside they will be 13mm further in. Given that I rub at full lock on mine I would expect you may have some real rubbing issues on the inside and recommend some spacers for sure. My rubbing may be as a result of the tires being taller so what they would rub on may differ than with 33s, but I would still be nervous with a 12.5'' tire and an offset that low.

Looks great! I am only running adapters because my wheels are 5x112 and the truck is 5x130. You just need regular old wheel spacers. H&R makes great spacers. My adapters were made by Motorsport Technology if you want something custom that is hub/wheel centric.

I kept both cats on both sides, just removed the mufflers. Loud is an understatement. It is ridiculously loud. I love it, but it is definitely not for everyone. I have tried to take some videos, but my phone mic doesn't really do it justice. I have a buddy with some quality camera gear that is going to do a small feature video so his mics should be better. If you are even slightly concerned about it being "too loud for daily" then don't do it. I like my cars absurd and even this is a bit much at times.

Amazing setup man!

do you think your tires would fit stock 2016 g63 wheels at 20x9.5 et50 (i think those are the specs, correct me if I am wrong) without rubbing ??

Not without a decent sized wheel spacer to prevent rubbing on the inside, and probably a spring spacer to prevent rubbing on the top.

My wheels are currently 20x9.5 et20 after the adapters and still rub a little on full lock, so you would need at least a 30mm wheel spacer to prevent that. There is a chance you can squeeze the 35s in there without a spring spacer or lift kit, but it would be close.

32 from a overall tire size perspective? Those will clear height wise with no issues without any lift. Width you still need to be careful not to go too wide to rub, my 12.5s are basically 315s in MM, so with that 50mm offset on those stock wheels I would not go much wider than maybe a 285, something like a 285/55/20 should work fine, or just space the wheels out a little and not worry about it.

Thanks, I just want to a slightly more offroad look without having too much lift, otherwise no undergrounds would be permitted. Do you have recommendations?

Much appreciated!

Lifted G500, GT-S, track Cooper S
I ran 275/70r18 (a little over 33" dia) General Grabber AT2 with no lift for about 2 months, including some light offroading, with no rub issues. They are 11" wide--I am going to 20" wheels and 34" mud terrains, but currently have 50mm spring spacers on it, and will likely add 30mm wheel spacers to clear 12.5" wide tires a little better.

These photos are post lift, but you get the idea.

Do you guys think a Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 275 60 20 tire will fit on the stock 2017 G63 20" wheels and workout without rub?

Thanks!

I have heard that bigger tires might throw off the sensors? Not sure if this is true?

Thanks!
