I think the new interior definitely looks more contemporary. I still like the older look but this will probably make the G appeal to a wider buying crowd (maybe the high end RR or Bentayga buyers?). I can't help but think that the interior looks a lot like the new JL Wrangler's (nice truck!), I guess this is the new interior design language!

It kind of depends on what one is looking for though. If you're looking for a hose out interior, bare bones, hard core off road vehicle, you probably aren't going to like the new model (or the current one, for that matter). But if you're looking for a luxury off road vehicle with a really comfortable interior that has the classic exterior look, the new model may be appealing. At least they aren't going in the direction Land Rover appears to be with the Defender where even the exterior (of the mules that have been spotted so far) of the new model isn't going to even remotely resemble the previous iteration of the Defender; it looks a lot more like a 2 door version of the new Discovery (which also doesn't resemble the previous iterations of the Discovery or LR3/4).

I don't mind the interior in general or if it was in another vehicle. I think the interior was in need of some updates to stay competitive in its class from a marketing perspective. I don't like the vents/aluminum trip. Seems very 5 years ago. I'd like to see more carbon fiber or flat finished woods instead.

My real concern is the suspension and wider body. Is it a totally new chassis or just the independent fronts. It obviously won't have the massive commercial grade front differential, but what about the transfer case? Will the rear diff be the same or some modernized "lighter" version. Where does the weight savings come from on a larger car?

There is or "was" something to be said about the largely unchanged G wagon. I was beginning to really appreciate the NO ****s attitude of Mercedes and its G owners. No cup holders - i don't care its a beast!, Dated interior - i don't care its a beast!, same body style forever - i don't care its a beast!, exposed hinges - i don't care its a beast!

Anyway my 2 cents!

Like the glass moon/sunroof. A proper rear middle seatbelt. The grab bar looks a bit contrived. Overall this looks great. Yes its softer but they are clearly aiming to sell more of these. Hard to imagine a world where there are as many W464s on the road as there are Range Rovers. But that is what they are aiming for.....

Other than the center part of the stack the dash looks similar to my wife’s 17 S550. I’ve been waiting to get this G, almost bought last spring, and may have been worth it.—at least the interior. I’m curious about the loss of the solid front axle and what drive trains will be in it. I’m assuming the same v8 from the S class cars?

I agree on that! I just can't get over the silver looking trim around the air vents. Especially in the middle. To me its looks like an afterthought. Doesn't seem to flow. But what do I know. I am not a designer. Exactly lol
