Definite improvement. I'm more concerned about the rumored suspension upgrades. There are supposedly some dimensional changes but hard to detect in the photos. Although somehow the windshield looks bigger.

Looks good. Personally I have no issue with the current design other than some lack of modern conveniences like keyless entry, remote start and other modern day advances like cup holders. Applaud the team for designing a modern version of the G that closely mirrors the original. In 100 years the W463s are going to be very special but these w464s certainly look tempting. Going to be hard to resist the temptation to get the first model year. Curious to see how they price it. Thanks to whoever snapped and posted these pics. Wonder if they get picked up by wider audience.
I'll add that the seats look kinda boring compared to the diamond stitch; and not a fan of the stalk for R/N/D.

The body is going to be widened by four inches. So it should have a roomier interior, definitely an upgrade.
The W464 will be 400 pounds (give or take) lighter than W463.
Further, the new G-class will come with independent front suspension and electro-mechanical steering.
It seems that Mercedes Benz will reveal the new G-Class at Detroit Auto Show (January 2018).
I will probably upgrade from my 2015 G-class to 2019 version. I am just concerned how the drive will change due to the suspension and steering upgrades.

I do hope there are a pair of cup holders under the sliding wood panel in the console a la the E class as opposed to something useless like an ash tray. In general I'm not a fan of the air vents as they do remind me of the bass ports from cheap Japanese electronics in the 80s. However, the vents in these pictures appear to be painted black in the center which improves the look compared to the ones seen in the picture series showing just the raw dash board as they seem to be all silver.

I think the new interior is fugly as heck. As Flooby said, it looks like cheap rice burner stuff. I'm more than happy with my 2000 G500 interior!

Personally, i think this new interior is "too" modern and makes the G-wagon look "weak"... It takes away from the rustic, rugged feel the older models came with. This new one is watered down and won't feel any different from sitting in a regular Benz sedan. But i guess no one can stop modernization on the long run. I wonder if the new body doors will slam shut with that bank vault sound the G-wagon is know for. That alone is a an attribute that attracts most to the truck.

Agreed; I'm withholding judgement until I see one in person. The first shots we saw looked pretty bad, but these more recent shots look like there's potential.

I hope you are right about your value forecast. I can't see where the suspension upgrade can be anything but an improvement. Historically any changes to a vehicle icon like the G Wagon are met with skepticism by dedicated owners.. I'm keeping an open mind. We shall see.

IMHO, we'll have to wait to see final production versions before we pass judgement on the new interior. I was at the dealership this past Friday and had a brief chat with one of the managing partners. He told me he has seen the new model in person and is extremely impressed with what they've done with it. He did say that the overall length is a bit longer to finally give some more legroom for the rear seats and (as we all know), it's a bit wider to make the cabin a bit roomier (and make room for cupholders in the front). He also referenced the interior photos that are available online and mentioned that those are early and the final design will definitely be more refined. While I prefer the look of the console controls on my G63 (heating and A/C, etc.) compared to how they're setup on GLC, GLE, and so-on, I'd be absolutely shocked if MB screws up the final interior to the point where we all think it's fugly as @Dutch put it. The newer layout does make the controls a bit more accessible for the driver, so less risk of taking eyes off the road to make adjustments.
The other piece of info he shared is that they already have a waiting list for these and to expect roughly a 6 month wait to get one for the first year or so as they're expecting demand to exceed production capabilities.

^^^Good observations. Taking a wait and see approach myself and extracting even more value out of my 2010 which is getting a little tired. I also don't plan to get the first year of the new model in any case as they will be working out the kinks for at least the first year. Bought a year 2 Macan after P made multiple in year production tweaks in year1 and we've had to bring in the Macan for no fewer than 3 recalls and first year owners had ~5 or 6. These recalls are a major hassle and not worth it. All of this will either force my hand into a 17/18 W463 or bide my time for the W463. In any event, anxiously awaiting the reveal.

IMHO the changes look to generally be improvements. The door and hood hinges are still visible and external and the handles seem similar so I think that the door tech is likely unchanged. Ie the bank vault sound. The integration of the screens on dash seem much better from a cohesion and distraction point of view. I do like how skinny my w463 is but cup holders would be nice, so would more space for back seat feet.
These seats are unfortunately clad in ugliness but if they remember how much they're charging for the G, they shouldn't leave them as they are in these photos.

I haven't seen the recent military versions of the G's but I wonder what they do about the interiors. I would think that the interiors are too fussy with too many breakable bits for the military.

By the way, W464 will arrive at the end of 2018.
Also, the door and lock sound will remain the same. (I think almost everyone will appreciate that they have not changed this factor).

Thanks for sharing these new photos. They look a LOT more refined than the previous photos did.
Is there any word on pricing on these? I'm assuming the prices are going up, the question is by how much...
Like @drew138, I'm hesitant to purchase the first model year of this redesign (let other people help them work out the kinks), but I'll probably want to get one at some point after that.

The more car people I meet and the more car forum threads I read, it’s quite apparent that 95% of exotic and high end car buyers have no desire to own the best/coolest/most engaging cars, but rather the newest, regardless if it’s better or more true to the brand. I’ll be driving 463s for the rest of my life - the only true Gelandewagen.
