2019 w464 G-class pics finally RELEASED

Doesn't look too bad, I expect it to sell a lot more than it is now. Obviously going for the Range Rover Crowd.

just1time 01-05-2018 02:28 PM

Albeit, a great percentage of people won't really be able to tell this from the past model, i think the exterior has lost a little bit of its "big boxy" appeal IMO. It Will definitely attract a new crowd but i still prefer the previous model for the rugged and more boxy shape. Hate the curvy shaped mirror housing.
Is the gas mileage savings high compared to the W463?

twist-a-grip 01-05-2018 05:19 PM

Don't hate the end product like I thought I would. Looking forward to the AMG models with better wheels and a more aggressive front end. Can't see me dumping my 4x4 for this, though - too soft, too mainstream - the rough, horrible driving truck of old kept demand, and therefore, production low and propped up resale. I suspect this car will be much better driving which will make it even more enticing for the look-at-me mall crowd, so it will be interesting to see if the 463 was truly for hardcore G fans like everyone says, or if most of us jump to the 464 and demand for the 463 goes down the toilet.

pdeacon 01-05-2018 09:19 PM

I like it. It retains the traditional look with the added benefit of a more friendly and roomier interior. Need to drive one to experience the new suspension before taking the leap. It will have to impress because my MY '16 has only 18K miles and will be hard to let go.

CG 270cdi 01-06-2018 01:19 AM

I like it. There isn't much change to the exterior which I think was smart.

But... ...those mirrors are FUGLY. It's a minor thing but they don't match the body. It's like a goth with fuzzy slippers.

RAKLAW 01-06-2018 07:13 AM

Not too bad actually.

Interior a nice modernization for those of us who own one.. Where are the cupholders? Supposedly removable.. Gearshift i]on SW in line with MB other models.
Never liked that crazy Command thing on console. Too easy to mistakenly contact and change display unwittingly
Mirrors more aero for less drag. Appears windscreen a bit more raked.
Funny, must have left fuel filler system alone as now the filler door is more forward reflecting the added length of the truck. Anxious to see wheel design
Hopefully HP will get a serious bump in the G63 & G65 to bring it more in line with competition
WAiling for DOG

djantlive 01-07-2018 12:52 AM

It is exactly what I have been waiting for - better transmission, suspension, more rear room. The exterior is largely left alone but slightly worse. The dash is smething to get used to but let's see if it has steering assist like the cls and e class.

tcsracing1 01-07-2018 12:27 PM

It looks very much like the previous generation. So it will be hard for most people to tell the difference. Nice to see they kept it classic.

I think less wind drag, roomier interior and better steering will be welcome for average buyer. Better ride will be welcome too.
Most people who buy these never see off road.

My 2013 G63 had horrible steering, bad ride And the interior space was as bad as a Jeep Rubicon. Electrical gremlins too.
I used it on long gravel woods roads and deep snow access to my country home. Very capable. But looking forward to the new refinment.

Diesel would be a dream come true.... wish they made it.

They do make the G-wagon with diesel engine. Its common in Europe. but not available in North America cause they know we are egotistical entities that love to pay for uneccesary gas guzzling engines to compensate for our small balls :)

DarrVao777 01-08-2018 01:50 PM

Looks nice

Also looks like we will have a tough decision ahead of us since our X5 comes off lease in May.

We had wanted to go with a 2019 given the redesign although it sounds like there will be a wait list (we also plan on buying this time so year 1 gremlins also make us nervous)

Might just have to go with the 2018 although I'm pretty sure the 2019 will be better fit since the car will be for my wife

AMG3.2 01-10-2018 12:58 PM

Not a fan. Looks too soft compared to the old body style.

+1,

i liked that they kept the same frame but i dont like how they facelifted the front and the back, for me the w463 will always be my favorite

Here is a new video, which sums up all what has been changed. One thing I'm surprised - it's almost 5" wider than the current one...

Thanks for the reply!
Yes I agree. I figured this out after looking
for a while. Only strange thing is I can't find
a picture on a tire site that show the Wildpeak AT
with this Tread patter? All the pictures I find
have the 2 outside runners in the tread much more
zig-zag. These have a pretty straight channel.
The reason I am kinda obsessed with this is
the pattern on the Auto Show G looks like it would
be ok noise-wise on the road, whereas the zig zag
pattern I see on tire sites looks like it wouldn't be so
great for the street. Thanks

ET550 01-23-2018 08:23 PM

The tread pattern was a little confusing to me as well although you can see more of a zig zag pattern reflection behind the front wheel in the picture. Either optical illusion or may be Falken is making a special variant of the tire for Mercedes..

I am torn between both, but favor the current model. The new one, I think they softened to much. It kind of took some of that uniqueness away from it. I like the current models daytime running lights underneath much better, compared to the the rings around the new models lights. I do like the bigger interior and leg room, and some of the other ideas. I hope they keep the side air inlets in the front quarter panels, below the hood, on the G63 model. It breaks up the lines some and takes away from the softer look!

Not fond of the long aluminum looking trim piece between the vents. Maybe that piece in carbon would have looked cooler or no trim at all connecting the vents. I personally like the brush guard as well on the current models. In a video I watched, I was thinking they said the USA models will come with the guard. Maybe that will hide some of the stuff I don't like up front. The new width is nice. But I must admit, parking the current model is easy with the narrowness of it. No door dings! Regardless, I am sure it will grow on me~!

abhatti55 01-24-2018 11:21 AM

Looks like brushguards are a thing of the past as well. MIss the days when they had rear guards and turn signal guards.

The guy explaining the new build, in the video I was watching, was saying the European models won't have a guard. But the American models will get one. So I am not sure. But I like the guard! It Toughens it up and adds some bling! I wonder as well with the smaller liter motor if it will have the sound of the current model. I have a 17 G63, and it has a nice growl now. I wonder if it will lose some of that.

I am not sure if I will be as excited if everyone starts driving one. I liked the exclusiveness of having something different, and that had good resale etc. Other wise it will remind me of another RR on the road. I am sure it will drive way better than the current model, have more power, better milage, more room, etc. But there is something about the rawness of the current model and the way it drives that is just magic. That military truck feel!

Going down narrow roads is nice if big trucks pass, its easy to move over etc in the lane because the G is narrow. Easy to park in narrow spots and traverse narrow trails. Takes up less garage space. I know, I need a bigger garage! The diamond stitched leather is gorgeous. I am not down on the new model. I still like the current one a lot is all. That may change when I check one out! It will be interesting to see it in G63 mode, and if it gets the front brush guard. As well as an more aggressive front end look. I am sure it will be very popular no matter!

I don't think there will be any loss of exclusivity. Wait ''till you see the pricing on the new model. It won't be less, that's for sure. The question is how much higher?

Thats a very good point! Pricing will be interesting!

sterz85 01-24-2018 09:06 PM

Where's the placement of the rear view camera? I noticed it's not on the top of the rear door.

abhatti55 01-25-2018 01:03 AM

The 13-17's with the M157 were the best version of the W463 in my opinion. Production was limited and this will keep the values right where they are I predict. The new one has some excitement but I think nostalgia will win in the long run. The looks and proportions aren't there in the new model. There is no way the 4.0 liter can sound as good as the current 5.5. Just pure raw no need for valves to fake the sound.

The halo DRL makes no sense whatsoever. The side mirrors could have been taken from the GLE/GLS cars instead of the new gen cars.
