2018 G550 ordering - questions on restrictions?
Hey All
I had placed an order for a pretty standard 2018 G550 with Designo Midnight Blue exterior, standard black leather, burl walnut trim and steering wheel. The must haves for me were the midnight blue + burl wood combo. My dealership just called and said that MB can only build it with the shiny black piano trim + the optional black wheels. Anyone else happen to be in the process run into limitations like this? I understand that MB is probably winding down the production of the classic 463 but this seems a little odd.. Thanks! |
Its possible.. I just tried ordering a car in diamond silver for someone and was on constraint for 2018.. they may not have parts left .. they order in bulk and months ahead of time..

This happens frequently at the end of a model run. I think you were fortunate to get your exterior color choice. The factory is running through the last of their interior/exterior parts inventory. This is especially true because the new interior is completely different as is the exterior. Best of luck with your new ride.

Makes sense! Thank you both and let's see how this goes

Yea, we see a lot of black and white G wagons... nice to see some colors... granted we sold a few matte cars, matte grey, a yellow and green, blues and of course the neon yellow G550 4x4 square (the rest of our squares were designo white, black, matte black and regular white)

Even though there are a lot of black G wagons, out of the 3 I've owned: Iridium Silver, Midnight Blue, and now Obsidian Black, the Obsidian Black one has gotten BY FAR the most compliments from people and I doubt it's because it's my first AMG. The average person isn't going to notice the difference between a G550 and a G63 from a quick look.
The Iridium Silver was by far the easiest to keep looking clean, while Midnight Blue and Obsidian Black frequently look nice for about 5 minutes after a car wash, especially in the winter. :) |
