How to remove dash wood trim

My 2016 G 550 has this annoying rattle coming from the center of the dash. (Mostly from the radio , navigation, and switches) it’s fairly noticeable when going over any small bump. I know that the G wagon has a stiff suspension but a car of this price range shouldn’t have rattles. I would like to find the cause of the rattle but to do so I have to remove the wood trim. Have any other owners also notice the rattle?

I got the trim piece off using a plastic trim removal tool. It was very easy to remove. Fortunately everything went well with no broken pieces.

The rattle might be coming from the center stack surround, at the bottom where it meets the climate controls...some of us have carbon fiber, piano black wood or one of the walnut or ash woods. Our 2016 G550 and 2017 G63 both had a rattle similar to what you are describing!

On the bottom of the center stack surround, we used a combo of some felt tape and silicone caulking (felt from the MBZ dealer, they just gave us some, but you can get it at an Auto part store or fabric/sewing store). We just kind of filled in underneath the bottom of the center stack. Did not have to remove anything and took the rattle away almost entirely!

We have had a lot of cars, including 5 current/modern Rolls-Royce, 4 current Bentleys and easily 25 Mercedes, 20 BMWs, 3 Porsches, 5 Range Rovers, Audi, Lexus.....and NO other car has as many interior rattles and noises as the G-Class. I'm sure the 2019 (hopefully) will address this, but for a car that is $125-200,000+ it is crazy how rattle laden they are. But, it is The G. It is one of the many quirks!!

I have attached a pic from my car, to show you where I am talking about. If you don't understand, I can try and take another pic. It is HOT and dark in the garage. I wanted to get in and out. LOL

I removed the trim piece around the radio but have not been able to isolate the rattle.it seems to be be coming from behind the display tablet. Has anyone also noticed this rattle? If so how were you able to fix it?

There also seems to be an intermittent rattle behind the instrument cowl (the hump that faces the windscreen). I hear it on really bump roads, but thank god most of time it is not not rattling.
