2015 G550 More Aggressive Tire Help

Hello everyone,

We've got a 2019 G550 that comes in a couple of weeks, but we have a 2015 G550 that lives in Idaho. Right now it has the stock tires and I'm at about 5/32" so I'm thinking I'll replace the tires with new ones. I am looking for a tire that is a bit more aggressive, but not a mudder.

Currently is has the factory KUMHO SOLUS KL2s 265/60/R18 (see pics)

I would like a taller tire as well as a bit more aggressive side thread.

What does everyone think? Thanks.

I like the Yokohama Geolander G015. They are one of the few AT tires with an H (130mph) speed rating. Thier wet performance is awesome! I have no snow experience with them, but understand they are very good. They also have your size...

Thanks SF, looks like a nice tire. If I wanted a bit taller, what size would you recommend?

Has anyone gone with a 265/65 or a 265/70 on their G550?

I can't remember what size I was thinking of putting on my 14" G550; I ended up selling before new tires. I ran them on a GMC Sierra and loved them. There is a forum thread on this subject somewhere, which is very informative on the best sizes, to avoid rubbing and ESP issues. I hear that the dealer can change the tire size in the ECU. I really want to put these tires on my 19" G550, but will need to sell the OEM tires, since the dealer will not do the swap. They won't touch alternate tire sizes...

Yeah, I've seen a bunch of those sites SF, my concern is the clearances and rubbing specific to changing the stock tire sizes on the G550, so I'll search this forum for "tire talk" and see if the issue has already been discussed, which i'm sure it has. Thanks.

I personally think a 275 65 18 is the perfect size for a stock ride height G.

i have Toyo AT2s in this size, they look great and balanced perfectly.

@helinomad installed 265/65/18 on his 17 G550 https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...ml#post6987300

There's also a picture of OE size 265/60/18 KO2S https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...ml#post6982536

This is exactly the info I was looking for (with pictures to boot). Thanks a ton!

Has anyone gone one more size up to a 265/70/18?

Right BLU60, I see the 265/65/18s but I was wondering about 265/70/18s, if anyone had done that?

Well, if folks are using 275 65 18 sized tires with no issues at +/- 32.09" tall (Nitto tire size)
I am running 265 65 18 at 31.54" tall on my 2016 model.

265 70 18 should be about 32.64" tall - this is the size I would put on some Hutchinsons!

I hope someone has tried this size and will report back, I went up one size from 265 60 18 and it's great so far but would like to also go taller with the next set of tires.

Yeah, I screwed up. The tire company bought the RWL by accident and I just said, "put them on, it's ok" now I'm regretting it

I think the white letter is only on one side of the tire, you can always flip the letter facing inside if you dont like it.

Yeah, I know the inside of a tire gets completely covered with break dust after about 100 miles, but I would know the white was in there...........yep, you guessed it.................total whackjob

I'm getting rid of these tires and going with the Yokohoma GEOLANDAR A/T G015 Blackwall. I know a few of you have used these and liked them.

I had those Yokohoma A/T in a 315/70 setup for a different vehicle. I had very bad luck with them. Two of the 5 I had bad siping issues that caused lugs to chunk off, and they warrantied them. I eventually swapped to Nitto Ridge Grapplers on that vehicle as well.

Buyer beware, maybe you'll have good luck. My experience was awful on a similar straight axle Jeep.

I had good luck with the Yokohama, but they all can have issues. I had some Bridgestone ATs that could not be balanced. 3 of 4 where defective from the factory.
I am debating between the Yokohama and the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. The Yokohama is the only AT that has some of the line, in H speed rating; the LT tires are S rated. The Wildpeaks are T and I think the General Grabbers are, too. This truck is capable of 137mph, so speed rating is important, IMHO. Also load rating is very important. I won't be going less that 112 load and T speed rating.

Hey there guys!
I've been running the BFG KM3s for a month and a half now. I ran the KO2s before and like the KM3 better. Typically a mud tire is supposed to be louder than the all terrain but the KM3s are next to silent. They make a slight bit of noise at high speeds on the highway but the exhaust is normally louder than the tires. Turn on the radio or any noise in the cabin and both become muted. They're also a blockier tread which I believe benefits on cornering. The KO2s had a bit of roll to them that made the G feel very top heavy at times. The KM3 is much smoother and apparently stable on road. The tread on them is extremely beefy as well. They seem to have the best features of the old KM2 and the KO2 combined. Very very happy with them and would strongly recommend!
I've run a 275/70/18 on the KO2 and the KM3. Only the slightest bit of rubbing on the rear fender well under full articulation. So slight that the rubber that is touched peels off and looks brand new again. Would caution going wider because you will hit your control arm with your front driver tire when making a full turn to the right. I've heard of people fitting tires but I can assure you with stock suspension and no wheel spacers, this size works.
This all of course on a G550. G63s seem to support a bigger tire.

I'm having my mobile wheel/tire installer (Right Away Tire) install a new set of Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015s in place of my KO2s (the raised white letter ones) so I'll post a picture afterwards. The owner has been in the tire business since birth and know tires (does the local car communities exotics like McLarens, Ferraris, Lambos, Bentley, Rolls, etc - in addition to being a off-road rock climber participant) and really likes and has had great luck with the G015s, so we'll see.
