G350D DIESEL Launches in Germany December 2019
Is there any way one could pay a ton of $'s, and do whatever would be necessary, to import a 2019 G350d into the US? I suppose there may be huge warranty implications (like none?), and MBUSA dealers might refuse to service it, even if they could order the appropriate parts, if nothing else because MBUSA mechanics might not be properly trained on this new Euro only model? Seems like a very similar diesel engine is used in the new S-Class in the US (maybe with different tuning specs, etc.).
So, realistically a total pipe dream, or is there any hope? Any word on a possible future MBUSA G350d?

Very impressive on the part of Mercedes to see they are standing behind their diesel engines, and then some:

Heck, if I was one of these lucky diesel owners, I'd take the cash and have Mercedes upgrade it, and be an oh, so happy camper!

Me, too, this really sucks! Here's a link to an article about Mercedes being in deep doodoo, at least in Europe, ala the VW diesel saga. I breathed a big sigh of happy relief when I read the article's headline, as it suggests Merc is A-OK in the US re: Dieselgate. WhooHoo! Albeit, when I then read the entire article, well, it don't sound so good fro Merc and diesels. My hopes for a G350d arriving anytime soon in the US seems pretty bleak at this moment, at best. Sigh...

A straight 6 diesel in an U.S. G-Class would be great, but MBUSA won't ever consider it again, in any of their vehicles because of the whole backlash against diesel caused by VW.

Sadly, I’d have to agree with that assessment. I think our hopes for a G350d in the US have been all but thoroughly dashed.

Strike a friendship with a local diplomat and ask them to ship one over for you.
I don't see any problems with servicing. I've lived overseas and the dealership can usually order anything...it just takes a while.
That' being said a couple of friends have owned a b class and a new c class station wagon. Another has an eu spec a3 sportback. Servicing shouldn't be a problem. Warranty will be non existent.
Registering will be the greater issue.
