2019 G63 Roofrack - Lame or Awesome?
Since our cars are delayed, let’s change the topic to get excited again whats everyone’s stance on a roof rack? I like the look, but honestly, I doubt I’d use it except for once or twice a year. Is it lame to have a rack for the occasional family road trips and for the look? I like the idea of a rack, and the brabus led front roof spoiler. Here’s a video of a roof spoiler on a 19 g63 |
IMHO, the problem with a roof rack on a G63 is the increase in height may be just enough that in some (many?) public parking garages, your roof rack may strike the ceiling. Typically, sans a roof rack, your G63 roof will clear by just a few precious inches. So, the added height with a rack might put you just over the line, so to speak. An expensive proposition if this happens!

if you were to eventuallly do a 2” lift (hypothetically), good luck clearing anything! |
Where did you see the 7" figure? I think that LeTech rack is maybe 7" with the lightkit and maybe on +3" on the rack itself. The rack on the new G connects to special adapters in the roof panel and not the rain guard like on older models. The new rain guard trim is actually fairly flimsy piece of abs plastic that will probably fade and look bad over time. It's one of the items that caught me by surprise (not in a good way) on these new trucks.

The flat roof rack will add some more height to the vehicle. This new vehicle height level, will be approx. 7" above the top of the composite rain gutter molding. The optional Expedition Rail (see image) will add another 4-1/2" to the total vehicle height. nor sure what the composit rain molding exactly is. 11.5’ total with rack and rail is a lot of height |

7" above the rain gutter molding probably means about 3" added to the height of the vehicle. If you look closely at the photo where they show the 7", a good chunk of that is below the top of the roof. Where are you getting 11.5' from? That's 138" - the new G definitely isn't even close to that tall.

I'm guessing someone will come out with a lower profile mount. I think you can fiind one now that adds a minimal 3.5" to the pre-2019s
