Question about pre 2018 G's Safety

Hey everyone, so after watching the 2019 crash test video and doing some research it appears I've been told only 2018 and newer G classes have side curtain airbags? Any clarification if that's correct or how many airbags it does have? I did notice it has them on the A pillars on the 2018 like the 2019 but heres a photo of a 2016 that has the SRS badge on the B pillars. Dealer hasn't been able to confirm nor deny on a 2016 I was looking at. I've seen a few sources list that it does but I'm shocked there's no way to confirm. Thanks

so this should help out - i looked at the window sticker for my ‘16 and it says:
1/ under ‘safety/security’ it lists ‘advanced airbag protection system’
2/ under the ‘governmental 5-star safety ratings’ it shows none of the categories were rated; everything is disclosed as literally ‘not rated.’

as your picture above shows - there are side curtain airbags.

and this - from the operator’s instructions:
”Window curtain air bags are integrated into the side of the roof frame and deployed in the area from the A-pillar to the C-pillar. When deployed, the window curtain air bag enhances the level of protection for the head. However, it does not protect the chest or arms. In the event of a side impact, the window curtain air bag is deployed on the side on which the impact occurs. If the system determines that they can offer additional protection to that provided by the seat belt, a window curtain air bag may be deployed in other accident situations.”

2018 G63 got new airbags in the front A pillars. 2017 and older did not have these. When we got out two 2018 G63s, we pointed this out to the salesguy...and he did not know this. We compared it to the '17 G63 we traded in...and sure enough, no airbags!

Yea according to photos and ajm0623's post above it seems the pre 2018 models did also have side curtain airbags they were just located on the B pillar instead. Not sure what the difference made or why it's not listed anywhere.

Thanks a lot for those pictures. Very interesting, now I'm confused haha. I guess the A pillar is an additional side bag?

It looks like they may have added an additional airbag on the A pillar to cover a potential empty space between the front airbags and the side curtain airbags due to the acute upright angle of the windshield. This may also be just an additional safety label for the side curtain airbags that extend all the way from the A pillar to the C pillar. In that case I would suspect there is an additional label on the C pillar. My 2015 also has side airbags integrated into the backrest of the front seats. Someone will need to check Startek epc online to see if they actually added any additional airbags or just additional labeling. A pillar cover on 2015 looks otherwise identical.
