Got Rear ended today...

Someone decided to rear end me today. I’m hoping the dealership can just replace the wheel cover, and that there isn’t a huge delay in getting one. Luckily the other driver apologized and took care of calling his insurance and admitting his fault right away. Still frustrating, but I guess it happens and it could’ve been worse... |
So sorry. I believe the wheel cover is one of the 5-6 carryover parts from the 18 G. So hopefully not too hard to get; unlike the glass issue the 19 G is having :(
|
Ouch! Thankfully the wheel cover can easily be replaced. No body work required!
|
Sorry to hear about your accident. It appears minor and should be able to be fixed by simply installing a new cover. I would just check to see if it stressed the wheel mounting bracket enough to bend the door. I'm sure you already checked that. The first dent is always the hardest. Hopefully all will be good ahead. Good luck with the repair.

Accidents are no fun for anyone, hopefully they can get it repaired and back to you quickly. |
Sorry to hear, fortunately it looks like it's just the wheel cover. Hopefully prevents you from losing your car for more than a day. LOL at the photo above though.. Good luck

That is unfortunate, but the wheel cover is a relatively easy fix. Thankfully the damage wasn't more substantial!!!
|
Most times the cover is damaged I have seen damage to the mount and door so don’t be surprised when the shop removed the wheel that the door has a slight bit of impact damage. Sorry to see but a easy fix still.

Been there! Had 800 miles on the odometer when i got rear ended pretty hard. I was stopped at a red light, guy behind was looking back never touched the brakes a going about 35 mph. G took the hit pretty well, was about $12k in damages.

wow, that's quite a clobber

OUCH !!!! What a shame. Had a fender bender when my G had 2,500 miles on it. I was cut off by a driver who was not paying attention. The brush bar absorbed most of the impact but the repair was still $9,000. Took it to a certified Mercedes body shop refereed by my dealer. Came out perfect. It did take a long time basically because of parts ordering. Good luck with the repair. Hope no-one was injured. We can fix them or replace them...that's the upside.

Insurance guy is coming tomorrow to appraise the damage. I ordered a vinyl tarp-like cover for the rear wheel to cover up the dent for now in case it takes awhile to get the replacement part in. Only cost $20 from amazon. I want to make sure they’re going to replace the wheel cover and not just fix the dent and repaint it. Doesn’t look like there’s any other damage to the rear door, but of course I’ll be making sure the MB dealer checks everything out. Will keep y’all posted on what he says and how much it costs.

Dealership and insurance company checked out the car today. Just the wheel cover needs replaced. No other damage. Total cost with labor and tax is $3,100. I thought it would be more. Said they should be able to have the parts in within 2 weeks. :)

Rear cover that expensive eh? Glad there wasn't more damage and that it will only be a couple weeks

Thought I could modify the old one to fit, but ended up aborting the mission after cutting the pole to fit, only to find that the diameter of the old cover was too small. So my point is don't go looking on Craigslist for a new cover for a 2019 if yours ends up damaged or stolen. Here's a great temporary one for $120 that looks OEM. Plastic rigid back and even the dealer service department thought it was stock. Boomerang Cover G Wagen Almost thought to not get another factory one because in LA they get stolen all the time. Just more food for thought.....the person who stole my cover was driving a G Wagen. Unfortunately my cameras couldn't get the plate, but how crazy is it that? https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...0d0ea6acfd.jpg |

Actually, the tire cover is not an exact carry over. Had mine stolen off my 2019 and I found a used one off of an earlier model. The pole in the center is much shorter on the 2019 as well as the diameter is slightly larger on the 2019.

It is vinyl around the plastic and it removes / stretches to fit easily, yet very good fit. I don't think thieves would find this in high demand to resell, so I am not worried about locking this one.

How does this work? Is it just a plug that covers the hole where you stick the screwdriver to loosen the cover?
