Fuel Gauge

Anyone having fuel gauge issues? I can brim the tank at the station, then drive a few hundred yards and it will show one (virtual) "click" down. No way, despite the terrible mileage, it could be consumption. Wondering if it's just a quirk of the tank, filler and gauge -- and if anyone else had.

I notice this sometimes too, but strangely not always. Never ceases to shock me that even what seems like a very short drive, even in good traffic....1/8 of a tank gone.

oh man..really? How big is the tank?

My 2018 G63 has a 25 gallon tank; technically 25.4. Mpg is soooooo bad. City driving is about 8-10mpg (and I am not lead footed). Freeway is 12-ish, but 14 is achievable on a flat highway, under 70mph!

G63's drink lots of fuel fast. You just need to get used to it. I too find myself going through 1/8th almost instantly. I've hit 16+ MPG on highway cruising. Just babying the throttle. That's about as good as it gets.

If I look closely, I can watch the fuel level drop while my G63 is parked and not running :rcain:

The G fuel consumption is scary sometimes. I was on the "Reserve" light mode in my 2010 g55 and the car was estimating that I had 46mi before it was empty. Was driving up a large mountain and it was dropping 5mi every min or so; caused some tense moments before rolling into a station on fumes.

That's why I fill as soon I'm on half. Don't need that drama.

i believe you have 2019 g63? Or is it 2019 g550?

Festertester 05-05-2019 10:56 PM

Interesting comparison .. 2019 fuel tank is a gallon more and gives 1 mpg better in city. ‘19 g550 is 2mpg better than g63 on hwy...I’m sure in real world it’d be a wash...

This is why I ordered a spare tire gas can mount. Gas stations can be far between up in the mountains where we live and I like to explore. So I'm going to mount 2 x 1.75 gas can on the spare tire. Its nothing permanent or evasive and can be pulled off when I'm just cruising around town. When in town, I usually refuel around 1/4 tank...most vehicles have their fuel pumps located inside the tank and the fuel helps keep them cool.

The mount I'm ordering...probably get some looks running a G Wagon on trails with jerry cans lol
