2019 G 550 Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus Installed

Finally "bit the bullet" and installed these. 275/55R20 which are slightly taller than the stock 275/50R20. They screw my speedo up to the tune of +3 MPH over stated at 60 MPH. Does anyone have a way to calibrate the speedo to account for larger tires? Back to the story. First, I waited 3 months for my local dealer to get the New Pirelli Scorpion ATR in 275/50R20 . When they came in, they were hardly aggressive and weren't worth spending the money because they were hardly an upgrade. These new ones look good and have the Mountain symbol so I don't have to hassle with chains in the mountains.

Looking good!
How is the road noise and handling compared to previous setup? And how did you test that they affect the speedo?
I've been considering putting on a set of BF Goodrichs on my G500 for a while now but am a bit hesitant due to road noise and handling. I don't know what they will be like on the motorway so I haven't dared. Anyone got these here? Regularly drive at speeds of around 110mph which is close to the max rating of these tires so not sure it will be a good option for me. And they are a bit pricey just to buy and try...
They do however look amazing on the G I think.
Example photos, not my car.

I did however put a set of Cooper STT PROs on my old G Wolf but that's a different story :-)

I live in south Sweden but drive regularly through Germany where there is no speed limit on a large part of the motorway. Always interesting to be cruising at 110mph when some Porsche doing 180mph blasts past...

I run STT's on my 80 series - love them... but a bit agressive for the G IMHO unless it's prmarily offroad...

for the G I really like the toyo AT2's for their smooth ride and great look and traction..... they were great on our recent trip from Houston to WA and back via Moab and Telluride.... and they come in a "s" rated model .... and seem to run fine at speed .... we hit 130 in a few spots in SW Texas ....

this pic is pre-40mm lift but with the 305's I went back to after trying 35x12.5's....... they jsut barely rubbed on the headers....

Road noise is SURPRISINGLY quiet. I guess Pirelli did some homework on this because the road noise is not much more noticeable, maybe 2 or 3 decibels.. Perhaps when they wear, that will be a different story. As for the speedo error, I can tell by putting the GPS on my phone and compared to my speedo.

Is it possible that the GPS is off?

Did the larger tire fit under the manufacturer's tire cover/spare tire cover?

I haven’t touched the spare. The spare cover will not fit anything over stock. I usually carry a mini compressor and a tire patch kit so that I don’t even have to deal with changing out if it ever happens. A size difference, even though it is a little bit, I don’t believe for shorter distances. It’s gonna make a difference.

275 55 20 does have a lot more options and lower prices than 275 50 20.

do you rub at all?

surpised you see an increase in your speedometer. Larger overall diameter should yield the opposite I’d think.

My speedo is off, meaning if it says 60, I am at 63

Correct. Larger tires will read a lower speed on the gauge as the tires will need to do less rotations to go the same distance as a smaller tire. I have a set of 35" tires on mine and my speedo reads about 8-9% lower than actual speed. I use android auto the majority of the time so have GPS backup speed with that map system. Depending on year there are some adjustments that can be made.

Shiann made a pretty good post about the functions in STAR/Xentry and tire size options:
https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...ml#post8888376

I have an 04 and with my topdon I was able to see some different options for tire size but hadn't played with them at all as I only mounted the 35s for a couple weeks as its winter and my toyo winter tires went back on the 22" rims. Ill run the 35s full time through summer. I am even thinking about moving up to 37s eventually.

I am running 275/55-20 Pirelli Scorpion AS on stock wheels and 285/50-20 Blizzaks on winter (black) wheels. Plenty of clearance.

I picked up the rims with Blizzaks on them from another forum member and I believe they had about 10k miles on them and they had good tread on them. This is my 5th set of the DMV2 Blizzaks on multiple SUVs. Typically get 4-5 seasons about 15k miles before replacing them. They get a little noisy as the age. They are stellar in the worst conditions. I drove through white out conditions last weekend in northern New England on greasy snow and felt very surefooted.

I should have answered your other question. I don't run them past April 1. They will not last long at all in warm weather.
