Aggressive tire recommendations

Anyone running a more aggressive all terrain/ mud tire look on their G wagons, which tire would you recommend (primarily street driving)? I’m currently looking at the “Nitto ridge grapplers”, my only concern are the problems I hear when it comes to wet weather driving. Any reviews on said tire or personal recommendations would be highly appreciated.

I think the Toyo Open Country RT is a better hybrid tire. They are made by the same company, but different tread patterns.

And my vote goes to BF Goodrichs TA KO2. Im really pleased with them both form and functionwise. Great grip and no problems with roadnoise.

Vadarmerc, those look amazing on the OEMs. Thanks for posting pics. I'll have my setup soon to post. Both G and wheel/tire should be here next week. Going with 33x12.5 BFG KO2 on 20x10.5 vossen et25. I'm hoping for minimal rub.

If you want the look of a mud terrain but drive on snow and icy roads the Goodyear Duratracks are hard to beat. Cooper Discovery AT3 are one of the best all terrian tires and do amazing on icy roads. They just dont look as mean as the Duratracks.

I have been running Nitto Terra Grappler G2 for couple of years. I live in PNW where it rains pretty much constantly and have been very happy with them. Long tread wear warranty, great in wet and extremely quiet. My G55 is a daily driver so I needed all around performer but quiet on the road.

They rub on the fender vent when turning. Have not had a chance to flex it yet. Appears I will have to do minor trimming. Will keep others updated.

Couple weekend trips this past weekend. BFGs performed flawlessly. One trip in a snowstorm.

Ridge Grapplers in 285/50/20.

No complaints. Even in Rain. Almost OEM quite.

I've got 10K on my Ridge Grapplers. Love em! Great on the highway (quiet) and just finished a 50 mi trial run with a bunch of Jeeps. Lota grip and they put a more aggressive look on the GWagon. The new off road package 2020 with Pirelli AT tires look weak.

Thats my G63 in the above pics on Sadistic IG screen shot. Thats more then a small lift. It started with LeTech lift and I had bad rubbing and didn't drive as good Initial instal was done by BRM (Bill Radar) who is amazing and such a kick *** shop. . Keep in mind I had the previous gen G63 completed modded and lifted on very large 35" tires. So they (Sadistic) designed and fabbed up brackets and mounting to keep the shocks at own static length so I would be able to have full cycle of the factory electronic shocks. He also made front and rear spacers to lift it more while bringing down the Letech lift so it would lessen the spring compression. He also did starlight (for my kids) and installed a custom sub set up in the factory location. Audio sound night and day better.

Best part it drives so amazing now!! And it's taller, no rubbing on road so far. Still needs to hit the dirt. Just need to get aftermarket wheels and larger tires.

Nice set up, your g look great ! I plan to order a set of AGL44 20x10.5 et20, with Toyo open country MT 305x55R20. Hopefully no rubbing.

My guess is you will be in the same camp as me, maybe more rub. It appears your inflated height on that tire will be 33.5"x 12.4" which is taller than my KO2 at 32.5" x.12.5". There was a guy on Instagram running 285/55/20 BFG KM3 on 20x10.5 ET13, which is 32.4" x 11.7", he also reported rubbing, even after a 1.5" lift. His rubbing was only on the fender vents in reverse, and he flexed the rig fully with no other issues. That's the reason I went with my setup. So far I have trimmed the bottom two fender vents off, and no longer have rubbing. There is an open hole now in the wheel well. When I get more time, I'm going to try and come up with a solution to fill this.

,
One thing to keep in mind is the speed rating.

chances are the off-road tires that you’re putting on the G63 will have a speed rating less than the top speed of the vehicle.

Not a big deal but keep that in mind if you end up on a wide open desert straightaway and a heavy foot !

They should fit with no problems. I have the same tires but 275/55R20 on mine.

I think you may rub. 275/65 is pretty tall. A little over 34". 275/55 like stated above is the much safer bet.

Just based on what I found out on Instagram of the 285/55/20 having slight rubbing, I think I would cancel and go with either 275/55 or 285/55.

How much would the 275/55 raise the G over the normal 275/50s?
