Are windshields still breaking for 2020?
Hi everyone, i’ve been following this forum for a long time and finally just bought a 2020 G550. It’s being delivered next week. I had the full PPF and ceramic coating done as part of the deal. Do I need to purchase the Exoshield for the windshield? I haven’t seen too many people complaining about windshield breakage/cracks for the 2020 model. I appreciate everybody thoughts! I will definitely post pictures once I get it.

I'll be getting exoshield along with PPF and ceramic coating. Now whether it works is a different story.

I have 10k miles with ClearPlex 2layer (4 sheets technically), had myriad rocks etc from trucks and nothing has cracked so far. I hold my breathe every time I hear the hit...! So far so good.

When I had PPF installed on mine I asked the installer about Exoshield and he said he used to apply it but stopped since too many people had complaints, but I have heard positive reports online elsewhere, and here. And no cracks, etc. to my 2020 windshield, yet.

Yeah they're breaking. I didn't get 500 miles into my ownership before a very small rock hit my windshield and chipped it at 75 mph. By the time I got home that crack had spread to both sides of the windshield. Haven't gotten an estimate to fix it yet as it was pretty recent. Anyone know what they're going for these days?

I have Exoshield on my 20' and so far so good but I only have 2k miles. One friend of mine has a 20' with no exoshield and no cracks yet and another has a 20' with no exoshield BUT her windshield cracked. A small rock chip turned into huge crack (this happened last week). The windshield is expected to take 4 weeks from Germany to come in. They also said they can't guarantee that it won't crack in transit. If it does, obviously they would have to order another one....so another 4 weeks.

no cracks in my windshield yet (3k miles)... hopefully never... your best bet is to try to stay away from other cars when travelling at speed on the highway. dont tailgate other cars too closely. i found that this has helped me a lot with avoiding chips.

yea this sucks. with the angle of the windshield, i think if something hits it while youre travelling at speed, there's no getting away from the a chip on the glass.

Over the weekend, what almost looked like a loaded shotgun shell smashed into my windshield (2020 G63). Loudest windshield noise I've encountered yet. My heart sank a little but thankfully, ZERO issues.

I agree though that if it were that loud there is a mark somewhere! I have had the same happen on several occasions and I always found something - one time it was under the wiper blade and the other on the top of the A pillar.

I had ClearPlex installed after my first broken windshield. It didn't keep my second windshield from breaking and I had a less than pleasant conversation with the product manager in charge of that film. He insisted they make no claims, promises, guarantees...etc. that the product will protect your windshield from damage.
The shop that did the install was so disgusted with their response that they stopped carrying it.
