Wheel Bearing Play

Went to the beach last week and the G started steering very loosely - pulling to the left and then the right. Made it home and put the G up on the lift and there is sizable bearing play in both front bearings. I am surprised it could develop that fast. Looks like it will be off to see the wizard next week.

.
They can be tightened down. There are four per front wheel if I remember correctly. Inner, outer standard, then small upper n lower bearings too. They last a long time with service. I had all mine checked and serviced at about 40k miles and then again at about 100k miles. All solid. Check your control arm bushings, Panhard rod bushings etc. I replaced nearly all rubber bushings with custom poly ones at about 75k miles. Still drives rocks steady like back when it had 10k miles. 😊

Took it into the dealer today and they didn't identify the wheel bearings as an issue - just claimed that the sway bar links were bad, so I asked them to check the wheel bearings again, but I have not heard back. To me, the hubs are clearly loose enough to fail annual inspection here. I will have to push the issue with them.

If you - while the G is on the ground grab the top of the tire and try rock the wheel in and out. If bearings are loose you will feel a clunk while doing so. Although I think you know that trick.

Yes, and I did and it did clunk - both sides. This may be difficult with the dealers..

Yes this concept is definitely lost on dealers.
