G550 December Delivery
Why use W463 for a completely different vehicle?

The logic of reusing the chassis style W463 for a completely new vehicle escapes me. Am I missing something? As I await delivery I am now at the order accessories point, and I have to look over every item to see if it is for a 2018 and down or a 2019 and up. Can someone make sense of this for me?

Agree wish they used W464, which some people actually use.

I think theoretically it's W463a so if you search with the "a" sometimes it filters only for the 2019+ model.

I believe they reused the number to show officials it's a facelift, not a full change model.
If they sold it as a new model it wouldn't have been allowed to be sold due to pedestrian accidents, etc.

I feel the same way about the forum here. Most post are about the 19+ these days and that’s fine. But hell the X/W166 have diff forums and all they did was rename and facelift from ML/GL to GLE/ GLS which is crap.

Maybe make a W463 2019+ forum section too.

There were (maybe still are) a bunch of YouTube videos touting that the only carry-over parts from MY2018 to the new G were the door handles, tire cover and some nondescript metal bracket. Actually there seems to be considerably more, beginning with the engine. MB retained the W463 ID probably to avoid some expensive re-certification process in the EU. Boeing used the same ploy with its 737-MAX to circumvent a bunch of FAA red tape. Despite different engines that were mounted differently and that required its MCAS flight stabilizer in order to fly, everyone signed off on it as merely a 737 variant. It was no big deal at the time.

Agreed, makes it a PITA when looking for parts and tunes etc..
Wish MB did what Porsche does with the 911.
