40k mile transmission service

Hi, I have a 2017 G63 and it just hit 40k miles, my indy was able to do everything for the 40k service except the transmission. I searched but wasn't able to find any transmission service kit for 2017 nor any info on parts needed. Does anyone know if the 40k transmission service is just a fluid flush or is it pans off gasket and filter change along with the fluid?

thanks in advance.

also, what are dealerships charging for this service (might go that route if its reasonable)

With the fluid change you replace the gaskets and filter. Indis charge between $350-$500 while the dealer should be double

Transmission service is a pretty complex procedure. I did it with an independent shop (best rated shop in the city) on my older S, and for a short time thought it was great saving $300 compared to doing it at my dealer. After driving few weeks my tranny started slipping while driving on freeway. It progressively got worse. Took it to a dealer to diagnose - had to take a gamble on doing it one more time at the dealer for full price (after chief mechanic drove with me for a while and said that many years back he has seen the car where something got in to transmission fluid and it had similar symptoms). After dear did the service the car drove without a hiccup for another 60,000 miles. I'd say pay one time at the dealership...

It's not a difficult procedure at all. The main thing is getting the fluid level correct. Most techs in a rush do not bring the car up to the correct temp and it is a pain to top off as the new fluid goes in thru the drain plug and most are too lazy to do it. The transmission is very sensitive to correct fluid level. It is more about taking the time to do it right than difficult.

Absolutely right on the money, most German cars (esp without dip stick) need you to do this at a certain temperature, this temp is read with a scanner too. Audi have been doing this since their cars in 1998. The slipping would definitely be a level issue.

Well... yes and no... on AMG 63's ... where you want the transmission serviced "perfectly" to spec .. the tranny fluid temperature is critical to get the correct fill level... in our shop/top-techs keep tranny fluid in the freezer to mix/top off the fill to bring the measured temp of the fill down in the tranny down to correct temp.. engine operating temp for the drain .. but the only way to bring the fill down to correct temp .. without waiting 4hrs for transmission case cool down --- is to add/mix the cold w/room temperature fluid...but then again our guy's are top-techs and on AMG's they even use use a temp probe down into to measure fluid fill in the tranny to measure correct temp...the only other way to do it "perfect" takes hours/s....the IR thermometers that measure the tranny case temp aren't useful for the fill..

It's interesting to learn that accounting for the 4-5% expansion that the fluid exhibits over it's operating temperature in achieving the correct fill level significantly impacts the transmission's operation. Guess this justifies the elimination of a dipstick since its only useful markings would be fluid present and fluid absent.

Where is the dipstick for the transmission fluid located on a G550? I looked around couldn't find it.

I just did mine recently. Got filter, gasket from RA and fluid from eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/175440881396)
I had the dipstick from before as I've done other Benzes. My 2011 G55 took 4 quarts exactly

Yes, there is a dipstick tube on passenger side, back of the engine. It has a cap that you have break little clip on in order to take it off
Then use dipstick like this
Amazon Amazon

NOTE: This dipstick is not meant to stay in, nor will go all the way in.
