Transfer case fluid

Hi guys, tried to search google and forums but doesn't seem to find the answer,

just a quick question, how much fluid is needed for the w463 transfer case fluid change? I need to buy the right amount to bring to my indy.

I've used two different fluids for transfer case in the past, and you need 3 quarts of them
MB part# 001989330312 - It's for front and rear differentials but I was also told by dealership that it can be used for transfer case as well.
I've never had any issue with this, but not 100% sure if it's correct spec recommended by MB.
The other one I've used was Redline MT-90 which many others have used on their G wagons.

thanks, I was under the impression that the diffs use 75w-140 while the TC uses regular 75w-90.

are you saying 3 quarts for all 3 areas: front and rear diffs and the tc? By that logic its safe to assume the TC need under 1 quart?

No, you need almost 3 quarts just for the transfer case.
Front differential needs just under 1.5 quarts and 2 quarts for the rear differential.

The transfer case and the differentials take two different kinds of fluid, even though they are the same weight (viscosity). The diffs take a GL-5 grade lubricant like Mobile 1 synthetic designed for the high shear loads encountered in a hypoid gear set. The transfer case requires a GL-4 grade like the Redline MT-90 which is designed for high compressive loads like helical gear sets such as those found in the transfer case. Use the correct fluid for each application. My TC took a little over 3 quarts from totally dry.

Digging up this old thread

the g63 diff fluid is different than the g550 diff fluid. G63 is 75w140. G550 is 75w90. Both are GL5. There is much confusion on this as many don’t specify if they have AMG or not.

the TC is indeed 3qts of 75w90 MT90 redline. It’s the same for AMG and 550
