Asymmetric Fender Vents

I just realized this a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone know why the fender vents are not symmetrical?

Note: not mine, I just lifted the photos online

My guess is that MB's design studio is organized into 6 groups that are assigned front, rear, top, bottom, left and right side appearances (lol).

Wow, had never noticed until now. My guess (without first cheating and looking under the hood) would be that it has to do with the air intake lines or filters, and that they had to go in asymmetrically to fit.

Impossible to determine without some disassembly or a fiber-optic inspection camera, since the area is sealed between the wheel well splash wall, the engine compartment bulkhead and the exterior sheet metal. (These vents don't exist on the W463A.) Maybe there's a transmission or engine oil cooler buried in the space on one side. Is there any plumbing from the engine compartment that enters the space on either side?

I know, right? I know I only owned mine less than a year but I noticed it just recently.

Intakes are all going downward towards the front

Not 100% sure, but I it might have to do with snorkel options.

Are $4K snorkels just a cool look or has someone actually forded beyond the vent depth?

On the right side, the washer tank is in the wheel well above and behind the liner. The vent is moved forward to accommodate the tank.
