Replacing Headlight
On a recent 4WD trip I managed to catch a stone that smashed the glass on the LHS headlight of my 2016 G63. MB Aust have quoted A$3500 for a replacement unit 
. The headlight still works but the glass is cracked and missing a small piece. Has anybody have any experience with replacing a W463 headlight? There appear to be aftermarket HID options available that are significantly cheaper than an OE replacement. Is it possible to replace the glass/bulb component without replacing the whole unit or is there a 'repair' option available? Any thoughts are most welcome.

Pretty easy to remove the headlight from the front. I think you would have to replace the whole unit, and like you say there are a few LED and other aftermarket options out there. Just depends on your budget and desire for OEM parts along with your tolerance for replica parts made in China (I have some myself).

Removing the entire headlight unit is relatively easy - a 10 minute job really.
You can always look on eBay for used units. If you purchase from a longtime seller with a good rating, you should be safe.

Changing the headlight takes only 30min (first time).
I happen to have a used headlight from my 2015 G5 with 64,000k miles. Its original factory with strong glass lens.
I listed it on Ebay for $584. Much less than getting a replacement from the dealer.
