Issues with Transmission on MErcedes G400CDI

Hi

New owner of a 2001 g400 CDI. The previous owner, a car fanatic kept it in pristine condition, the car looks and smell new.. Everything is original or OEM... The car sat, unused for 2 years. I changed engine oil and other fluids but not the AT oil (AT is the kind that has no stick. " sealed" so.. I am hesitant) ... about 95,000 Km on the odometer. Car runs fine.. engine wise.. On the transmission side things are very weird. At start up , everything is fine, gear changes are smooth and good.. after a few miles of normal driving , things start getting weird.. Very weird. abrupt gear changes. You slow down and transmission , shocks you to (perhaps) first gear... and the worst thing. If I drive up into mountainous terrain for a few minutes, the engine would overheat ...but that doesn't happen after several hours of driving on flat or medium terrains at low, mid or high speed. No overheating at all.. AC runs cols BTW.
I tend to think it is not an engine problem but a tranny problem... especially that a scan didn't reveal anything serious except for one glow plug but it said the tranny was slipping and had a "abnormal reading"
I have not changed the AT oil. Level looks good, I find , (not a mechanic) the oil a bit dark...
What do you suggest?

Thanks in advance

5G, correct? Change the oil, it’s a 20+ year old transmission. Take it to an Indy if you aren’t familiar with it. Search the interwebs, the 5G has been around a long time.
