Has anyone asked his/her dealer if this hold affects only G class vehicles or if other/all MB models are on hold? A safety recall was announced last month regarding a software problem in the crash reporting comunications sytem, affecting 1.3 million vehicles beginning in MY2016 and through MY2021.

Sorry, we do not have any ETA as of now.
I'm suppose to get my g63 next week or the week after. Hopefully this does affect mine.
My sales women hasn't said anything, so it should be all good, but who knows

The GPS recall is affecting almost all Mercedes cars pending the software update. DOT does not allow sale of recalled cars so hopefully the fix will be released any day now.

Our G550 was delivered to the Baltimore VPC on March 10 on the Lavender Ace. Sales rep told us on Monday, March 15, that there was a part or software update that was delaying ours and all G-Classes. Sales manager just updated us yesterday that all G-Classes at the VPC are delayed and there is no update on exact cause or the timing. We want ours ASAP but happy to just be patient. First-time G-Class buyers and so excited to finally get it!

Obviously none of the dealers either have any idea as to the hold or are unwilling to provide the actual reason. Probably built them without some insignificant part that they ran out of at the factory with plan to put in on the machines at the port when they get more of them.

Also have a G sitting at the port in Baltimore. I called my salesman yesterday to check the status and he said it arrived on the 11th with status “VPC Received”; no other details. He thinks I should have it by end of the month. Not sure how true that is with everyone saying there’s a hold on all Gs. Hopefully it’s not something major and can resolve it fast!!

I have no particular affection or compassion for dealerships or car salespeople, but it can't be pleasant trying to sell any MB class vehicle when you can't promise a prospective buyer a delivery date on an in-transit vehicle, and you have to avoid disclosing quality issues as the impediment. I wonder what the showroom talking points are.

My dealership said it’s confidential information, I hope my 2021 G 63 isn’t affected.

Just adding another one to this. My G63 is also stuck but my dealer thought it could be upwards of 5-6 weeks. Obviously no one knows but just thought I'd add another point. Hopefully it's sooner but I'm a bit confused, has anyone actually taken delivery of a G63 that's arrived at port in March?

My dealer literally says they have no idea.

so I have a friend that works in the oil industry so she has a pretty close relationships with dealerships in New Orleans. She said she asked one of them and this is what they said. No idea what is true or isn't but might as well throw another theory out there.

So I found out small nugget. It looks to be an importing issue. Apparently between Trump and Biden and changing import laws blah blah blah. There isn’t anything wrong with them, they are tied up in some legal red tape.
My dealer had someone yelling about them this AM. He said they are expecting about a week or so... the so part lends me to say 2.

It will remain confidential until NHTSA paperwork gets filed, assuming it is a safety issue. I checked NHTSA's website a couple days ago, and there is yet to be filed paperwork on the emergency communications recall matter.

Could make sense--if it were a true safety or vehicle issue then what about all the 2021 G's or even 2019 and 2020 that were delivered long ago? Haven't heard of any recall, so it must be something to do with bureaucracy over the actual vehicle.

There’s going to be a recall for the crash reporting feature in the gps, it’s reporting the wrong location. I took delivery of my 2021 G 63 December 1st 2020.The general manager at my dealership said that note someone posted from Mercedes is confidential.

I've received 2 safety recalls on my 2019 G550 -- one for the child safety lock labels and one for differential lock actuators. I've not yet received a notification for the "Vehicle Position for eCall" -- the recent recall announced last month that affects 1.3 million MB automobiles. Information on the NHTSA's website regarding this recent recall for my vehicle states that "Remedy not yet available". NHTSA safety recalls (even the child safety lock issue that required only a sticker to be pasted onto the door jam) prohibit dealers from selling or leasing any affected vehicles until repaired. This current safety recall carries the identification "NHTSA 21V058" -- google this and you can find out more specific information about the safety issue. My guess is that this is what has all the vehicles on hold.
Once a vehicle is in the possession of an owner, the recall becomes voluntary. My experience with MB is recall avoidance -- they try to discourage owners from having recall work done by making service work as inconvenient as possible. Those of you awaiting vehicle delivery can expect more attentive care.

So if it is the eCall recall that is causing the hold at the port, you would have to guess it was impacting other Mercedes models at the port as well, since the eCall recall covers most models. Has anyone determined if other models are being held at the port, or just the G Class?

I asked the same question yesterday, but apparently no one has yet asked about this. Nothing's going to get repaired sitting at port shrink-wrapped, and gumming up the works for all the other imports. Once the paperwork gets straightened out, the vehicles need to be trucked to the dealerships, even if they end up sitting on the back lot waiting weeks/months for the software update to arrive.
I certainly wouldn't want to be the software dweeb that precipitated this fiasco.
