Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)

Beginning sometime in 2016, Federal law began requiring vehicle manufacturers and the NHTSA to post TSBs for public access on the NHTSA website, even if the TSBs are not safety related and don't require a vehicle recall. TSBs can be found for any vehicle through the following:

1. Go to the website http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues,

2. At the top of the page, click on "Vehicle"

3. In the box that appears, enter "20xx Mercedes Benz G Class" and click on the search icon (replace "xx" with your model year)

4. The next page that appears lists all the G class vehicles in a table with columns for "Recall", "Investigations", "Complaints" and "Manufacturer Communications"

5. Scroll down to the line that lists ". . . G-Class SUV 4WD", and click on the number in the manufacturer communications column
(MY2019, for example lists 6 recalls, 0 investigations, 2 complaints and 20 manufacturer communications -- click on the "20")

6. On the next page(s), click on the "circle/plus" icon to expand any item, and then click on "associated documents" to find the TSB.

Many of the items listed seem related to problems discussed elsewhere on this forum.

In step 4 above, clicking on the number in the "recall" column will pull-up safety related issues and associated documents, that include recall letters, and repair/remedy TSBs (interesting stuff).

Taking a copy of the TSB with you when you visit the dealer to complain about a problem might be useful. I'm convinced TSBs are never read by anyone in the service department until enough owners complain about the same problem.
