One G wagon in the parking lot vs. 1 Garbage can…

Came out to the parking lot after work today, I was literally the only vehicle in the lot. Somehow a huge garbage can found it it’s way along side of it….

It's possible that a good detail shop just might be able to rub that out. If it can be restored to 90%+ original, it might just be worth holding off on a repaint job, as our G-doors get dings from all sorts of ppl and things.

I agree, looks like some are just surface scuffs that can be buffed out.

Ya, I am going to the detail shop on Monday, I think most of it will buff out….but there are a few pretty deep scratches.

Yes it is plastic and heavy as hell, I tried to flip it back upright but gave up as I didn’t want to dirty my dress clothes.

We had a terrible storm the day before 70mph winds, hail, tornadoes, etc…Guessing it gone blown on it side during the storm, the day after was windy, I guess enough wind to roll the can to the G.

Sorry to hear about the damage. Wow at those pictures!

If you run your finger nail along the marks does it catch on the scratches? If so it may be harder to fix well as it's below the paint. If it's all smooth and doesn't catch it should be fixable.

I had a lady scratch my previous Rover with her stroller (she wedged it in between our cars in a parking lot. Similar to you I parked where I thought I would be safe but she decided to park beside me. I was walking back to my car when I saw her getting kids out with the stroller between our cars and wondered why she hastily walked by me. I couldn't tell how close the stroller was walking up and didn't notice the scratches until I went to get gas and saw it by the gas cap. My nail got caught running it by the marks, so it was deep. Took it to a local detailer who buffed out what he could and redid opticoat in that area. Made it 90% better as others have said which I could live with.

Hoping to see some amazing restoration pictures after Monday!

There are definitely some scratches that my nail catches on and some where I can follow the scratch with my nail in the “groove.”

I wish I would have pictures of the fixed product on Monday…I am just bringing it to the detail shop and the body shop for estimates and look evaluate my options.

From what I have been reading and as you said, if your nail catches, that means there is damage to the paint….so I am in trouble there.

Your stroller story is even more frustrating…people seem to be drawn to parking next to nice cars. (Garbage cans seem to be drawn to them too

I will post the results when completed.

Gotcha. Will be interesting to see what the shop says the options are and prices.

Just remember, it could always be worse--at least you don't have magno!

It would protect the paint and probably scuff the PPF.

Went to detail shop and bodyshop…both agreed on the same resolution…having the bodyshop repair it-then back to the detailer to reapply ceramic coating.

The detailer said he could get it looking a lot better, but in certain lights it would be noticeable. (That was enough to sell me on the bodyshop).

Bodyshop estimated about 1k to fix it.

To address a previous question, IMO, PPF would have saved it. I have the hood, grill, and bumper covered with Xpel….I didn’t bother having Xpel put on from the front doors back.

Detailer agreed that PPF would have likely saved it. (Of course, I immediately figured he was just trying to make a sale). I asked the cost to PPF the doors, however, he had just covered the G with ceramic coat, he said it would be a lot of work, that he would do it, but preferred not too….

In 4-6 weeks she should be back to normal…

Glad you have a clear direction on how to proceed. Agree it's very rare to put PPF all over. I think a lot of Porsche and sports car owners do it but on an SUV it's a lot of film.

Probably the only reason to do it on a G would be to use Stealth to get the matte look.

Agreed, you would think too in many instances the running board would protect the doors….not the case with a giant round garbage can, but I would think they protect it reasonably well.

I have PPF on my entire Porsche GT3, my G 63 has Ceramic Pro lifetime coating on it.

Always get PPF. The cost is minimal in comparison to not only when situations like these happen, but peace of mind when driving around, getting stone chips, public carparks etc. These are also cars that are prone to malicious damage (key scratches, people jumping on them to post for insta pics etc)
