Replacement Brakes and Rotors Cost

My 19 E1 is at 40k miles and halfway through my second set of pads. Putting aside the warranty replacements, has anyone actually paid for a new set simply because they wore down? What’s the going cost for these (dealer or independent)?

Just to confirm your details - you have a 2019 G550 or G63 with 40K miles and your SECOND set of brake pads are half shot?

Not sure about labor but parts aren't cheap - these are MSRP for parts:

Front brakes:
Rotor 463-421-05-00 $1470
Pads 000-420-50-02 $498

Rear brakes:
Rotor 463-423-00-00 $905
Pads 000-420-37-05 $282

Based on the description that price may be per pad but I'm not 100% sure on that. Really hoping somebody will make some aftermarket ceramic brake pads for cost but more importantly brake dust.

Yes, I’m about half way through my second set of pads …. Rotors probably gotta go when those go. I’m just curious what this will cost me …. My first dealer quote for everything replaced was 11 ….. thousand …… dollars. Which is BSFC.

An option is to buy the parts and have a tire place or Indy shop do the brake job. $11k for a brake job is insane.

My hope is to keep trading in for a new one every couple of years so I can avoid ever doing a full brake job.

Hodog's prices agree with those in a thread several months back (maybe in the old forum). Are MB AMG OE brake components just plain crap, or is your driving style heavy on the brakes? I have 11K on my 2019 G550 and brakes/rotors still look new. Unless your rotors are badly scored or shimmy when braking, they're likely OK, or can be machined to remove light scoring/run-out.

That is BSFC for sure. 11 grand for a dang brake job? Insanity. You can get an entire aftermarket performance set up for most cars/trucks for $5K-$9K depending on application, and that includes calipers, etc. Do yourself a favor and buy the parts online and take them to an independent shop to get the labor done.

My '16 Rubicon with 46K miles still has 1/4" on its brake pads and no unusual scoring or shimmy on the rotors. When they need replacing at 100K+ miles, the complete 4 wheel kit pads and rotors are $400 (new calipers double the cost, as do slotted or vented rotors).
So can someone explain how a G's pads and rotors costing 7x as much have less than 1/4 the wear life? Is this more "the best or nothing" tripe?

Can't speak to the wear life but the parts and labor cost is definitely a Gwagen tax!

Yeah, nobody wants to find out his/her $150K G Wagen has the same parts cost to build as a Wrangler (even though this is about right - lol). Getting fleeced in the dealership service department or at the parts counter is part of the MB ownership experience. Still, pads and rotors on a G should last as long (or longer) as those on any other vehicle.
