Rear Door Lock Recall-who's had it done?
Has anyone had this done? My dealership won't do any other warranty work on my 2019 until this recall is done, which is highly annoying. Is this the norm?
I know what the rear door lock recall is for - it fixes an issue which can break the locking mechanism if you try to open a rear door from the inside with the child locks engaged, while the power locks are being unlocked. We've had one door's locks replaced twice due to this issue. We currently don't use the child locks anymore, so I have no need for this recall to be done anytime soon.
I do have other warranty work which I want done, but the advisor - whom I have a great, long-standing relationship with - won't do it until this door lock work is done?! Seems bizarre. Perhaps someone can let me know if this is the norm, at least in N. America?

Is there still a backlog/delay in acquiring the door lock recall repair kit from Germany? I know there's a requirement to provide the VIN to the dealer as a prerequisite to his ability to order the kit, but I thought the kits were supposed to be stocked in MB's U.S. parts warehouses eventually.

I don't think there's a backlog of parts. Certainly the dealer I deal with is ready to do the work. My issue is that I don't have the time to leave it there for ~2 days, and they are no longer giving out loaners due to the shortage of new cars... and I have no need for the recall to be done.
Yes, you are correct - the labeling of the child locks was also confusing, and they changed the sticker on the doors previously. But even with the child locks correctly engaged, if someone tries to open a rear door while someone is unlocking the doors, the door lock mechanism will bend and the door will no longer work. We actually had this occur twice in the first 6 months of ownership!
It's great that MB has found a fix and is mandating that all cars get it. But has anyone else heard of dealers preventing other warranty work to be done until campaigns/recalls are done? Seems odd to me... perhaps they deem it a safety issue? I have contacted another dealership and will see if they give the same answer.

I had mine replaced quite a while ago, they tried to put me out 3-4 weeks. They have a shortage of loaner cars. I called the owner and the service manager called and said when do you want to bring it in. They took a new GLS 580 off the lot and gave it to me to use. It only took them a day to get it completed. A loaner was part of the deal when I purchased my G 63. Porsche dealership wanted me to wait around while they serviced my GT3. They ended up giving me a Makan S to drive. As soon as I came back, they took it away like it was gold. They can find you something to drive, that’s BS!

I spoke to another dealership and they immediately offered a loaner and said that there is no need to do the door lock recall first.

Totally agree! They just lost my business - incredible! I have purchased 5 cars, including the G550 and the GTC from them over 7 years. I've been a model client, buying THEM gifts for the holidays...

I had it done awhile ago. It took about a week for the parts to get in and they had one tech who worked all day on it, so I got it back about 8 hours after dropping it off. Mine was the first they did and they said it’s a gnarly process but they treated my car well.
I didn’t buy my G there but they were able to give me a GLB loaner because I called ahead of time.

its very real. my back door was flying open at all speeds. i thought this was dangerous. sometimes couldn't open from outside and other times just opened spontaneously. had the recall, yes it takes all day and its a big job. better than falling out of the car.

I would call Mercedes customer assistance center, that doesn’t sound right unless yours was a later build that already had the updated parts installed at the factory.

I had this done. Prior to the work. my back door would not properly close and at times my alarm woudl go off for no reason. No problems since repair.
