Consider this - V8 Performance Hybrids - OnePath2 For The "Near" Future
BMW announced their "XM Concept SUV" - based on their BMW 4.4L M Twin-Turbo V8 matched with Hybrid Electric Drive Train to "over reach" the V8 Pack for HP and Torque.
Sure - OnePath1 for the Future is Plug-In Performance Electric - starting with the production Tesla X - and from the Mercedes camp the forth coming EQS580 .
Mercedes announced in August the "Hold"(Drop) of the M176/M177/M178 4L Twin-Turbo V8.
For Mercedes Forum members here - consider Connecting-The-Dots - and consider what Mercedes OnePath2 (parallel) might be...

My guess is that the MY '21 will be the last of the turbo V8 G's we will see. Some combination of hybrid with a six cylinder or smaller V8 may be the drivetrain of the future for the G. The renewed body style is only three model years old so I don't see that changing anytime soon. Another option would be to reduce weight but that can get really tricky with the pedigree of the G. An interesting question is what happens to the value of the W463A model if or when there is a drivetrain change. My G is on the water as we speak and is scheduled to hit the US port on 12/5. I remember when Porsche transitioned from air cooled to water cooled. I held on to my air cooled for a couple of years (not long enough) and prices subsequently went through the roof. My guess is that the MY '21 will be a keeper.
