My 2019 G63 has rusted door hinges and wanted to get some feedback on what to do. I am over the 4 year warranty (though under 50,000 miles), so no more rust warranty I believe from factory. My question, what should I do?
1) $424.48 per hinge replaced and painted (includes, parts + labor + paint). So to replace all 4 doors is 8 hinges = $3,395.80.
2) If I just leave them as is and just do maintenance on them? (Spray with WD-40 Specialist Corrosion Inhibitor and on top with Specialist Silicone Lubricant on all hinges)
3) Replace all the rusted hinges then take care of them?
I'm not sure if I leave them as-is if they will "spread" to the rest of the car because the doors function just fine and it's really just cosmetic right now (barely noticeable unless you look for it).
My car is from 2018 and i have same problem, allmost all hinges are with rust now. when i still had warranty i noted my local dealer about the problem. the answrer was then that mercedes has 30 year rust warranty no point to deal with one hinge if we can change all in the future. well ... now when i talked about my hinges again they said that the hinges are totally different theme ... its a moving part : )))
seems this rusted hinges problem is from the very beginning ... from 1979 )) I had it on my 2002 G-class also on my 2012 car. and now with the new model as well.
I would just clean w a small metal brush and then spray w Fluidfilm
very difficult to protect moving part w friction
too bad they don’t make out of stainless steel
