Door Entry Sill Trim Removal Help

Hi guys

Can anyone give any tips for the correct procedure to remove the door entry sill trims please, the whole trim not just the brushed steel cover plate that illuminates.

A couple of the brushed steel covers on my 2020 are a bit messed up so I got new ones to replace the full set.

The obvious is trim tool and pull upwards to free the trim clips but thought Id ask here too.

Thanks
Carl

Using pry tool, pull up the back portion. Once the back pops, pull the still toward the rear of the car and up. Pretty easy

I've removed and replaced it probably about 10 times already. Pull up at the B pillar end to release the 2 clips. Then pull out toward the back of the truck.

The cable for the Illuminated still will still be attached so you will need to uncouple it also

Will give that a try, the front ones tuck into the footwell but I think its a push fit also?

So I can pry up the silver sills with no issue but the ends of each sill I’m assuming are screwed into the black panel cover, is that accurate? I look at my replacement sill and I see a screw on each side so leads my to assume I actually need to pull up the black panel cover to remove the sill and unscrew it from the plate versus pry up the sill, is that what you did? If that’s the case how do I remove that black panel cover?

Thats what Im expecting to do, the silver trim wont release on its own it’s screwed in place, the whole plastic piece has to release, theres about 6 tabs on the small one from memory so Im expecting it will need some prying.

Then the silver piece can be released and replaced.

I removed the black cover plate and the silver sill is indeed screwed into it. Hopefully that helps, I just need to figure out how the trim comes off for the front door sill cover plates.

The front part of the front sill covers that tucks up into the footwell looks like it has to go in and up first when its fitted, then push down on the trim clips into the floor panel, here's a photo (not the best but all i found), you can see some tabs that would need to be inserted towards the front of the vehicle and upward to engage the trim piece at the top, then when located push the metal tabs down?

One of mine was loose when I got the G a few months ago, it all looked push fit but the dealer sorted it rather than me on that occasion.

You can but you can’t buy just the chrome sill from Mercedes as far as I know, bunch of folks sell just the chrome sill part on eBay. That piece attaches to the trim panel with just a few clips and two hex screws.

I bought just the chrome pieces to replace my regular G with AMG ones, not started the switch out yet though. Got them from that same eBay seller.
