Starter Battery Low Message - Charing Question

So the past couple weeks I have been getting the "Your Vehicle's Starter Battery is Low." message in the Mercedes Me app. The vehicle starts up just fine, no issues at all. The battery was replaced 12 months ago so it is not time to change it again. I am driving 20-30 miles daily at 15-20 minutes per session so the alternator should be charging the battery. Since I don't think the battery is bad but I am sick of getting the daily notification I want to try to pop it onto a charger tonight. The only one I have is my Porsche AGM charger that taps into the 12volt lighter socket in the cabin. Porsche has an always on socket that allows that to work. Does anyone know if the G63 has an always on one as well or are they all switched?

If there is another way to eliminate this message on a good battery I would love to hear it! Thanks.

Buy a battery tender. Plenty of them on Amazon. And just charge it up. I plugged mine in when I don't drive it for a few days. Only had this message come up once when I had it wrapped, they probably had the door open, etc. But just to be safe, I just put it on a battery tender.

Do you use the auto start/stop "feature" during your daily trips, and how many start/stop events occur during your daily commutes?

I do turn that off when I can remember too. Usually the first stop.

Same thing happens to my 2023 G550. I get same “starter battery low” message every week in the app. Starts fine. I have a Noco battery tender I keep it on. Took to dealer to see if battery can be replaced under warranty, they tested with no faults or low indicators. They just said to drive it more. I do use auto start/stop more often which could be it. Is there a separate “starter” battery, that is not the main car battery? I know the pre-2019 G’s did have that as I had to replace mine once.

Nope, I run in Sport+ mode almost exclusively. I also learned last night that the Porsche 12v socket battery tender does not work with the G63 so I will now buy one with the hardwire clips.

Seems that just like the parking sensors, MB made the G63 very sensitive in a few ways. I got used to the parking sensors going off all the time at a stop light so I am sure I will get used to the MercedesMe messages.

Thanks for the advice

I coded auto start/stop off using my Launch OBD scanner (there are forum posts about how to do this). I connect a Noco 1A maintainer to my G550 whenever it sits for more than a week without being driven. I attached a pigtail connector to the engine compartment jumper terminals to make the connection quick and always polarity correct. My G550 does not have any "always active" 12v sockets.

Love my Noco genius 5. Can charge using access under hood. Positive to the terminal under the red plastic cover and negative to the bolt sticking out from the side. That’ll take care of the message.

where does the wire come out from under the hood? Water proof?

I believe the original poster meant that they pre-installed the noco tender pigtail under the hood (via little eyelet screws onto the positive and negative charge points) and then they can just plug in the tender quickly without having to use the alligator clips. They still have to pop the front hood as I don’t see how you can dangle it out aesthetically or practically (unless maybe it’s hidden into the front grill somehow). This pre-installed pigtail setup is what I’ve done.

Yes -- this is exactly how I make my connection. My vehicle is garaged, and leaving the hood unlatched allows for a quicker disconnect. Nevertheless, it is possible to route the cable (either the 12 volt charger output cable or the 120v input cable) out the front where the rubber seal strip cushions it and keeps it from being pinched, so that the hood can be latched securely if you're parked outside.

Ah I just charge mine in the garage with a temporary hookup with the hood open and the Noco sitting on a stool by the car.

I don’t need to charge frequently or long term to make a pigtail connection worth it.

How did you attach the pigtail eyelet to the positive terminal under the hood? And did you use the M6 or M10 size eyelet adapter harness that Noco sells? See pic.

I popped the plastic cover off and tied the +12 eyelet directly to the busbar that's cabled to the battery, and tied the ground lead to a nearby chassis bolt. I have several Noco chargers, but the one I use regularly with my G is the 1A unit that's a wall-wart. I have a wall outlet just a couple feet away, so the cable is plenty long to reach the pigtail.

I did similar to @streborx except I used a Noco GC002 M6 harness
Amazon Amazon
, and two M6 metric nuts. I secured it to an unused stud on the 30A bus. I grounded it nearby on the strut tower.

Nice. I hardwired my Noco battery tender adapter today as well.
