Lane keeping assist on 2025 G550

Anybody else have issues with their lane keeping assist?

My 25 G550 will stay in its lane if the highway is straight or gently curves but will not if there is a bigger curve. My 22 EQS was much better at staying on track.

It also will disable auto steer for any small reason (lane markers slightly faded etc)

I wonder how Lane Keep Assist would handle the "Magic Roundabout" in Swindon, England (near-ish Oxford). LOL

It sucks. But no worse than my 2025 Range Rover, my 2024 Toyota, etc. The only lane keep assist that was actually useful for me was Tesla.

The lane keep assist feature for G's was not designed as a self-driving tool. Its intent is to automatically brake and jerk your G back into your lane if it senses you are veering outside of your lane at 40+mph. Sometimes it jerks you so suddenly and violently your instinctive reaction leaves you overcompensating by steering too hard and losing control for a second. It's incredibly fickle and unpredictable - and it SCARES the living daylight out of me on the few occasions it has kicked in.

I can't attest to whether MB has improved it for the '25 or '26.

I deactivate mine whenever I'm heading onto a highway...

I have had mine deactivated since delivery and never turned it on. I don't like any of those features, but I should give it a try sometime. This is the first vehicle I have even paired my phone with - and that was just in the past month. :-)

My 2025 G550 is deactivated as I don't care for those "safety" so called features in any car. I'm old school and prefer to drive the car all by myself.

That's normal for the G. It's not a true self-steering system like your EQS. It's a basic lane keeping aid, not a lane centering system. The steering box and solid front axle make it less precise. It's meant for mild corrections, not handling real curves. It's working as designed for that platform.

I permanently disabled my G's LKA with a hack that automatically presses the deactivate button every time I start the vehicle. Like others, I found LKA violently intrusive and incompatible with much of the existing highway lane marking. Using LKA as some primitive form of self piloting is not its intent.

I just picked up my 2025 G and was shocked with how badly the LKA did on the way home on the interstate. I will say it improved somewhat when I changed the settings for it to intervene earlier. However, I also have a new Cadillac Escalade and BMW 7 series with Supercruise and Highway Assist Pro, respectively, and just got rid of a Tesla MS Plaid (FSD). While I know it isn't an apples to oranges comparison since some other MBs have better driver assist, and I knew that going in, I was still shocked at how much worse the G's LKA was than the other brands' driver's assist features, even operating on their more basic levels when the hands off mode isn't turned on.
