W108 280SE Manual column tranmission engagement issue

having some issue with my friend's W108 280SE manual transmission with column shift on the steering wheel.

the engagement of the reverse and first gear is jerky and it won't always engage into reverse, in some cases it will get stuck and won't get loose, he'll have to open the hood and free the rods... the 3rd and 4th gears engage without any problem. the issue is only with the 1st and reverse gear.

all the bushings are fine, he has also removed the steering wheel column and greased everything and the problem still presisit.

Here's some pictures that might help you: the first picture is the steering wheel column shifter, and the second one is where the steering wheel column shifter rods connect to the gear linkages..

any info would help me, such as a video of engaging the 1st and reverse gear, or any parts schematic would help too.

thanks
