Mobil 1 question
And the Mobil 1 OW40 weight seems only availabel at the dealer at $6 per quart!! Anyone found a cheaper source?
When you saw the warning light, did you check the oil level on the dipstick to see exactly how low it was?
Did you check it right after it was serviced so you know that the level was at the "max" mark?
What was the mileage when you had it changed and what is the mileage now? I don't know exactly what M-B considers excessive oil usage, but it's unlikely that they'll consider it an issue unless is uses more than 1 quart every 1000 miles.
If your dealer is selling 0W-40 for $6/quart, then they're giving you a deal. I saw it for $6.45 once from a dealer in Texas. That's the cheapest I've seen and that was a year ago. Other than M-B dealers, I haven't found another source in the USA. It seems to be available in the UK, but it's not any cheaper there.
If you live in a warm climate, consider switching to from Mobil 1 0W-40 to Mobil 1 15W-50. It might improve the oil consumption.
