I'm shopping for a new car and a lot of the time you can see the VIN# on AutoTrader or Cars.com but the descriptions usually don't list the options or paint codes. In the old days, you could look at a Chevy VIN# and it would tell you what motor, trans, paint, int. etc., etc. that car had.

Can you do the same with a MB VIN#??? Example :VIN# WDBRF64J15F561421

What car is this and what options does it have......hint: it' an '05 C......

Being able to do this would help the shopping process a lot!!!!

 

You could call your dealer and ask for the information. That's what we did.

 

Thanks, but they are not open at midnight when I'm surfing the sites..... I was hoping that there were some codes taht code break down the VIN#. One of the problems is that I'm looking for a sport pkg. and unless they have posted a pic., you can't tell unless you call them.

Plus I feel kinda awquard calling the dealer and giving him 10 VIN #s to check.

Some VIN numbers might not work because it's a Russian site. It'll take some time before they update the site and add more VIN numbers to their list. So don't worry if it says it can't find it.

I remember that site though. It's more of a free CARFAX. I don't remember it telling you the options the car has.

 

The VIN will tell you model year, series, engine & serial production number.

The options color, equipment is the 'data card' or a sticker that is attached somewhere on the car. This will indicate the paint color (there's usually a sticker on the door jamb that will have the paint color code, VIN and model year) options the car was built with.

Somewhere around 2003/2004, DCAG stopped putting the paper 'data card' with the owner's manual and other materials that were part of the materials with the vehicle delivery process.

The data sticker varies in location depending on which model is involved.
