Check out today's homepage article showcasing the 2013 SLA Roadster. Does the front wheel drive roadster look like it's going to live up to the MB standard?

More models = more sales if the price points are spread far enough apart......all mainstream manufacturers do it.......that is why we have sweet BBQ, vinegar BBQ, smoky BBQ and spicy BBQ sauces........different strokes for different folks.....

For previous post, I thought the national gay car brand/model was the Subaru Outback not the SLK?

If the design is not based on that 11-year-old concept, but more of a back-to-basics driver's car, then I like it. Make it with manual everything, from the windows down to the transmission, with impeccable MB build quality, and you may have some takers, MB! This should definitely not aim to be a mini SLK or SL, but blaze a trail its own.

Yes, I'd agree daughters car.

Yet, a Benz with front wheel drive...it would not be on my list.

A giant step backward in styling for Mercedes ...
The 2012 SLK is quite attractive (I feel for the first time ever), but what happened here?!

This looks like a "Futuristic Concept Car" from about 1995

Can't wait to see the 2013 SL ... I am sure that it will share absolutely no styling cues from this SLA (He crosses his fingers).

Front wheel drive will never be better in a REAL sports car than rear wheel drive. Does not mean they won't sell. It's all about marketing and sales.

2013 SLA Roadster? Obviously for those with spare green and one or more real cars. Cars make a statement. Not real sure just what that might be with this one. Think I'll pass.

it looks like the illegitimate lovechild of a Chrysler Crossfire and an Audi TT - with birth defects! ...front wheel drive

TT killer? Hardly.
In terms of appearance, I would choose the TT hands down (heck, I would prefer almost any current roadster or small convertible - even the Mitsu Eclipse Spyder, and I really don't like its looks), but FWD? They do know that even the base TT convertible has AWD, right? I think it would need to significantly undercut the TT in price if they hope to sell more than just a few units.

Having been a Mercedes fanantic for over fifty years ..'55 300SL, '69 250C, '73 450 SLC, '83 380SL, '94 SL500, '92 400E, '01 430CLK, '80 SLC 5.0 Factory Rally Coupe (1576), and now a '03 SL500/AMG, and '07 CLK 550 ..Have loved the make since Moss and group kicked butt in the '55 MM (even have a model of his W198S and would sell my soul for Fangios' Aluminum W198)..BUT - this thing belongs in the stall with the 30s rear engine MB !

Must concur with the other guys ... IF they insist on FWD ..at least make it look like a MB... else do NOT mount a STAR on it anywhere !

it says the pictures are from 2000 - why would they do an article and show them as possible 2013 SLA photos?

It needs to be rebranded (I.e., smart). Big improvement on smart gmbh but truly giant steps backward for mercedes. It looks like a car from back to the future. Unfortunately, that was the '80s idea of future.

Hurrghh. That's me puking at the sight and thought of this vehicle. Mercedes would be insane to go down this road.

This has to be a joke. First of all the concept is 11 years old. Second of all isn't the SLK already the entry level (wanna-be SL) roadster? Plus the cabrio Smart has the bottom of the barrel market covered. So where exactly would this thing fit in?

What they need is a drop top CL to compete with the Aston Martin DB9. Not this bottom feeder. Are you listening MB?
