Vehicle service report

I'm looking at a 2002 S55 and a 2000 S500 I'm trying to get the vehicle service history from the servicing dealer in Southern California (South Bay Mercedes torrance). I called a service tech to get a quick verbal run down and they told me that the registered owner needed to come in to the dealer in person and show current registration and matching ID and they'd provide the service history. So the current registered owner went to the dealer (which is the original servicing dealer) provided registration and ID and they refused his requests. They claimed it's a violation of personal information disclosure which is I think is B.S. because we're not asking for previous owners personal information just the vehicles dealer service history.

Service told the current owner they could not provide any service records prior to his ownership. He requested to talk to a manager but was told none where on duty.

I've never had any issues with other manafacturers dealers getting service history over the phone much less in person proving current ownership so what can I do to get the dealer service history as Mercedes had been extremely unhelpful and quite a dissapointment?

Or who can I report the dealer to because as a prospective Mercedes owner they've already turned me off to investing in a newer Mercedes because if this is how they treat prospective owners my resale value and buyer pool would be severely diminished.

Thanks

This is complete nonsense. I've never had a problem getting the service history on a used car; they just have to redact the previous owner's name and contact information. Have you tried calling a different dealer?

I called 4 dealers and they all said the current owner needs to come in and show ID.

The current owner called the next local dealer after being denied at South Bay Mercedes in Torrance in person and they told him they couldn't help him even if he showed up in person also.

Is there a way to get these reports or can I report these dealers to MB USA?

Thanks

I'm sorry that I don't have a solution to your problem. I've never encountered this; I had no trouble obtaining a service history report for my three previous BMWs, or for my current MB. I just asked the Service Adviser to print or email me a PDF of the Vehicle Master Inquiry. In fact, my Service Advisers at both BMW and MB have even provided updated copies upon request after I have any work done, so that I always have a current record.

It looks like the member named ItalianJoe1 in this thread may be able to help you if you provide your VIN:
