Torque Converter

I have 2010 E250. When car has been left overnight on engaging gear next day the car stalls and jumps out of gear then needs to be warmed up for 2/3 minutes before being driven. MB have said possible torque converter replacemnt needed. Anyone else have this problem?

How exactly does it "jump out of gear"? What visual, audible or tactile sensation do you experience?

Are you able to check the oil level in the transmission? Sounds like low oil level but that is just a guess.

Stalling suggests the engine is being retarded by the drivetrain. Does the engine rev to high rpm, while in neutral or park? What happens if you shift into reverse? Can you shift into neutral without the engine stalling?

More diagnostic information is needed.

Just realised I did not explain properly, the car does not jump out of gear, it simply stalls. I have tried shifting to Drive or Reverse with same result of stalling. Shift to neutral does not stall.

Oil level checked by Mercedes Dealer and all ok

Am able to get high revs while in neutral and park.

As soon as I engage reverse or drive car stalls

In terms of sensation all I feel is car stalling

Thank you for your response

When did the vehicle start behaving this way?
Has it ever performed without this problem during your ownership?
What has changed since the time it last functioned normally, to when the problem began?
Is the vehicle modified in any way, no matter how small?
How many miles are on the vehicle?

Check everything electrical. Wiggle connectors and wires to be sure everything is connected and secure on the outside.

When in neutral with the engine running, can you turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock?

Can you post a video showing the tachometer and sound, when the transmission is shifted into gear and the engine stalls?

Approx 80,000 Miles. No modifications. It has had this problem for at least 12 months but I have never thought too much about it, last year the car was damaged on motorway and had to be repaired by Mercedes. It was only the report by mercedes after road test that made think I should get it repaired. Once car has been started first time in the day there are no problems starting thereafter. Car drives well with no noticable problems

On attachment is copy of their report.

Checked all electricals to make sure all were correctly fitted and they are ok.

In neutral steering lock able to go full lock to full lock.

Will have to wait until tomorrow to do video

Do you have a report of what was repaired after the motorway damage? Seems like things are starting to point toward something inside the transmission. Possibly the torque converter.
