Lookin' good carpersn. I'm glad we're starting to see some more pictures. You have the skid plates...would you say they shine like chrome or are they more of a matte finish?

It has a SS bumper plate, and it is obviously a little different than the other one...i hope this plate is released soon, as i want one badly, but am still not quite willing to go the rigged path quite yet...

They shine like chrome-I think they make a great extra statement without any Escalade bling.

Have to remember to ask them NOT to wash it upon servicing. OH well, I love it, just need to find someone who can clean it well without swirling it.
Thanks, CarPersn. Yours look great too. And, I have a standard instruction at my dealer to "DO NOT WASH".

From what I understand, swirls may not disappear at the very first cleaning but could take some time and you have to keep going at them. Check out this link https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-x164/182691-question-gl450-obsidian-black-color.html

Which plate are you talking about on 550? Looks like you did get the bumper plate on your 450.

the bumper plate on the GL550 was definitely the same one we have all been installing ourselves; no different.

I noticed that also. This could very well be a EU model shell with the US 550 engine (environmental differences) being used for tests. So the bumper sill plate may still not be available as a US accessory...? Why would this be such a difficult part to make for the US made vehicles...?

Pictures of a GL320CDI and Honda CR-V in the snow.
The GL is a 5 seater and loaded with everything except distronic.
Several cars ended up in the ditch that day (X3 with chains among them)

Where and when were these taken?

FYI the GL is a 7 seater.

FYI in certain areas the two extra seats are optional.
The pictures were taken today, here in Norway

I understand that in EU, there are many more options for the GL (as well as all other MB models.) However, since the GL 3rd row seats will automatically fold into the floor at the touch of a button, I doubt that even the EU version comes with an option of not having the seats at all. The whole purpose of the GL was to provide a 7 seat full size SUV.

As a owner, I can ensure you that its possible to have the GL delivered as a 5seater. Give me 1min and I'll provide you with photo evidence

Edit: 3rd row seats are code 845 in the option list here. Found a pretty good picture of a random 5 seater GL , enjoy ^^

I'm envious. I wish mine did not have the 3rd row seats.

I ordered my SRX without the 3rd row seats and would have done the same with the GL if possible. OTOH, I'll keep the seats if they will keep that snow!

I stand corrected.

I thought these were taken in the NE US for some reason.

Damn...what more surprises are in store for us MBUSA restricted US buyers? I stand corrected. We can't even get a chrome bumper sill guard and EU buyers can get no 3rd row seats!

Iv've noticed that aswell. Reading on these forums and looking at pictures of US GL's, they seem to have less standard equipment, no offroad package along with the diesel (right?) and less options to choose from in general.

Correct. MBUSA decides what is best for us instead of letting us choose from the complete list of options. They "package" options for us based on their so-called market assessments...they somehow feel they know more of what we want than we do. It is a crappy way to treat buyers who are willing to spend big bucks to get something which satisfies them.

It must be the Germanic way...BMW does it, too. For example, "Individual" (selection of any color combo - lime green/purple, anyone?) has been available in the ROW for a long time and offered in the US on only one model starting this year.

Here its the other way around. All GL's come with all optional safety equipment as standard along with the offroad package and a whole bunch of other stuff.

The US must be they're biggest market so it doesn't make sense to make their costumers unsatisfied. Not giving you the option to choose what you want strikes me as very un-american.

We have 20 choices of where to get a $2 drive through hamburger but can't choose a $200 bumper plate on a $70k vehicle!!
