Yeah, we have to come to Scottsdale to warm up. Its about 15 degrees cooler up here most of the summer. When its 120 in Phoenix its a chilling 105 here.

So how is it in Sedona on Labor Day. Of course, after 6 days in the Grand Canyon in late August, anything might seem cooler. What was I thinking when I booked that?

Knowing you, by "in" you mean "inside" and not "in the South Rim Park area" (where it's currently, in April, 22F at night).

You so clazy!

You got it. I begin a 6 day upper canyon rafting/hiking trip on the day of my "big five-O". My BIL, who also has a BD while we are on the river (he's has a few years on me), and his duaghter hike out on the Bright Angel Trail at the end. The ladies will pick us up at South Rim and we will head for Sedona for Labor Day weekend.

Temps are supposed to be high 90's to low 100's by late Aug but the cold waters (52 degrees) of the Colorado are supposed to keep it pleasant. We shall see.

I hear it's one of those "you must do it one time" things, which is why it's booked about 200 years in advance.

Well, maybe less than that, but still!

My brother and his sons have done the hike. I think they're out of thier minds. I mean, sure, I could go down into the canyon, but then I'll need a helicopter (or a GL!) to get me out!

And yeah, with the, what, 5000 foot drop in elevation, it can get toasty down inside when it's still pretty cool up top.

.............but it's a dry heat.

To me, hiking down hill hurts my knees and other joints more. Hiking up hill is more exhausting but it doesn't hurt as much the next day. The master plan is to be conditioned before the trip.

Oh, HIKING down hill. Yeah, I bet that does hurt the knees. That's why I just tuck-n-roll. Much faster. You know, "stop, drop, and ROOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL!"

We went to the Grand Canyon a couple of summers ago. I recall sitting on the porch of the El Tovar Hotel, sipping my Long Island Iced Tea and watching people hike out of the canyon. I can still vividly recall my thoughts upon seeing them...fools! LOL!

That will be me, one of those fools. I will be thinking about this when I crawl over that last ridge on my hands and knees, only to hear loud bursts of laughter coming from the veranda.

Nice GL

I went to Mt. Charleston (11,000+ feet) today and caught this shot of a carriage and horses with a great looking driver. He certainly fits the mold of a carriage driver in a western environment! He remarked that I had a nice looking rig. Didn't capture the GL but since I had it serviced Monday, it needed a run.

BTW...there is a lodge here as well as a nice restaurant at the 7700 foot level and this location like Red Rock is only about 30-40 minutes from the strip. There was still a lot of snow on the peaks and the temp was 57 degrees. As I keep saying there is more to LV than the Strip...

I didn't know Kenny Rogers was driving a carriage now! I used to like his chicken, too. Dang.

It looks like the driver is eating more than chicken...:-)

I actually have a lot of admiration for folks who hike like that...it's just not my thing. Hopefully, a kind soul will buy you a Long Island iced tea when you come out of the canyon

Two horse-power 10-seater, loads of torque and no need to worry about gas(oline, anyway). Nice.

Ahhh Mt Charleston. great pix Jack, brings back good memories. My buddy played music there for couple years at the lodge/restaurant, and I joined him a few times. Almost got snowed in up there 2 years ago.

The GL is a much cheaper option when looking at $/horsepower. The better half never complains about the GL since she knows I'll bring up her habit with our hayburners.

Now that's the crux of it. You're showing how truly classic style existed before in Mercedes, and still exists though it looks very different now. There's only one or two models of MB that don't appeal to me, style-wise (hey, to each thier own, yeah?) but earlier MBs seemed to each be works of art.

Thank you, atleung!
