N/A on the GL320 CDI (O.R. package n/a)
Optional on the GL450 (with the O.R. package)
Thanks GL. Really appreciate you responding again on this subject.

But MB should proof their copy when posting info about a new model and have it complete. ADSII is not some unknown secret working feature that all cars have. I had the initial version on my W211 as I remember and used it quite often. All that we have to go by is that Code 214 on the Netstar sheets and it just says Automatic Damping System, nothing about II however and not a word in the specifications of the car itself on the web site.

I have said before...if I ever headed up MBUSA or got a chance to talk to Dr.Z I would "fire the webmaster" and or the marketing director...:-)

My gripe was more with MB not making it clear that ADSII was included in the standard package. But I am relieved to have GL confirm once again since his info has been spot on.

The BYO website under Options for the 550 says: "Includes all available packages." Now suppose this is my first time to visit the MBUSA website and try to build my own GL550. What good is a statement like that. Even for one who has used the site for years that statement is meaningless.

I stand down now from my rant on MBUSA's website...perhaps tomorrow I will post some information about my personal driving plans for the October meeting in LV.

But, but, but, MB knows what's best for you. OK? So shell out the big bucks and stop asking for common sense. If MB added common sense (like Distronic for 550) to their products, none of us could afford their cars.

So, prostrate yourselves in an easterly direction and thank MB for just allowing them to be a part of your life.

Is it Friday?

So, what's the original question?
Dual screens in the back, and you can watch two different things, I got that from the dealer.
BTW, I still like the tq in the GL320, and I can't wait for the 420. When is that suppose to arrive?

Does anyone know if the front and rear SS skid plates and the SS guard that goes on top of the rear bumper is standard? I see them as options on the MBUSA web site but they appear on all of the pics.

Sorry, but the RSE is dual screen only and fed from a single DVD player. The "dual" part refers to a second feed for external media into the DVD Drive; like video games. Perhaps the descriptive should be changed.

Dual source DVD entertainment (2x DVD Drives) will be available with MY'09.

The skid plates on the V8+ are indeed standard. They are also unique.
The chrome step protection below the liftgate is also standard and can only be ordered on the V8+

BTW:
V6 = GL320 CDI
V8 = GL450
V8+ = GL550

Lastly...the V8 diesel offered in Europe is not being planned for the US.

2006 C230; 2007 GL450 (2008 GL450 on order and due to arrive early to mid Aug.)
Thanks for the answer on the RSE, GL Fahrer ... I knew that you'd come through with the info and thought that was going to be the answer (DAMN). At least the RSE is now with wireless headphones (they are wireless now, right?).

Also, just to clarify for gmartin, the skid plates are not standard on the GL450, only on the 550.

Is the chrome step protection the chrome bumper guard that has been written about a lot a few months back? A bunch of people ordered them and put them on their GL where no guard was there. Then, for late '07 models, there was a black plastic guard. I assume that the 450 gets the black plastic and the 550 gets the chrome? If the factory won't change it for me, maybe the dealer will. Any thoughts?

So would I. The MBUSA BYO is so confusing. Personally, I find BMW's easiest to use...

Some things they list twice, like for the GL450, they have Illuminated Door Sills under "Options for $550. Then on the next page is has it listed again under "Interior Appearance" for $450. I don't get how that works. You get charged twice (difference prices... ) for the exact same thing?

They should be embarrassed for their site. It is poorly organized and content is never current or accurate. There is no way anyone could go to the GL550 site and create a car and obtain a price. Jaguar, BMW, Audi and Range Rover make the MB site look like Web Building by Dummies.

No, the RSE headphones are wired. (same as last year) The Accessory (single screen) DVD unit has wireless headphones, but no speakers.
Wireless comes with the 2x DVD RSE in MY'09

Skid plates are not standard on the V6 or V8, They can only be ordered with the O.R. pkg (V8) or the 19" wheel package (both)

Not sure about the thread history of Chrome step protection, but is exclusive to the V8+. A V6/V8 customer would only be able to order the black version as a replacement.

You are usually right ... but I guess that would mean that the website is wrong.

When I click details on the RSE option, the website says:

2008 Options
Rear-Seat Entertainment-Dual Screen/Source with DVD Player
Who's riding in your back seat? Your kids' favorite superhero, a dashing leading man, or maybe it's your favorite comedian? With Mercedes-Benz Rear-Seat Entertainment System you can bring along your favorite DVDs and your back seat becomes your own personal movie theater.

Your passengers are entertained and because DVD audio plays over wireless headsets, the driver can concentrate on driving with fewer distractions.

Comprising: Screen, DVD-player, two headsets, remote control, module for overrun time, operating instructions, and installation kit.

I am positive that when I hit details for this same option before the site was updated with the MY08 info, it said "wired headsets."

Another mistake on the website? (Jack, care to weigh in on the website ... tell us how you really feel).

GL Fahrer, you have not been wrong yet, but I hope that you are this time (no offense).

So, will this be a single drive with two disc slots or two drives each with a slot?

Do a search for Stainless Steel bumper plate on this forum and you will notice that a bunch of us ordered that as an accessory and put it on. Boxboss even replaced his factory installed Black one with this Chrome/Steel one. Looks sharp.

Thanks forthe prompt reply. I've seen the chrome step protector on 07 450's on my dealers lot. I'm not sure if they were aftermarket or factory. My wife was considering an 07 450 but could not find the color combo with leather and 3rd row AC that she wanted. How can you make a $55K SUV without standard leather? Looks like the 550 will solve that problem.

the 550 makes you spend more but makes you less pissed off then starting at 55K and winding up at 71K after getting usual luxo options
